Barry Foy was raised in Columbia, South Carolina, but his road to riches started in Colombia, South America. In the 1970s, Barry co-ran the Gentlemen Smugglers getting the eastern seaboard high with Colombian and Jamaican cannabis for more than a decade. Barry became a millionaire by age 21, but his crew soon became a prime target in the first great battle in Richard Nixon's War on Drugs.

A risk factor is anything that affects your chance of getting a disease such as cancer. Different cancers have different risk factors. Some risk factors, like smoking, can be changed. Others, like a person’s age or family history, can’t be changed. But having a risk factor, or even several, does not mean that you will get the disease. Many people with one or more risk factors never get cancer, while others who get cancer may have had few or no known risk factors. Researchers have found several factors that might affect a man’s risk of getting prostate cancer. Age Prostate cancer is rare in men younger than 40, but the chance of having prostate cancer rises rapidly after age 50. About 6 in 10 cases of prostate cancer are found in men older than 65. Race/ethnicity Prostate cancer occurs more often in African-American men and in Caribbean men of African ancestry than in men of other races. African-American men are also more than twice as likely to die of prostate cancer as white men. Prostate cancer occurs less often in Asian-American and Hispanic/Latino men than in non-Hispanic whites. The reasons for these racial and ethnic differences are not clear. Geography Prostate cancer is most common in North America, northwestern Europe, Australia, and on Caribbean islands. It is less common in Asia, Africa, Central America, and South America. The reasons for this are not clear. More intensive screening in some developed countries probably accounts for at least part of this difference, but other factors such as lifestyle differences (diet, etc.) are likely to be important as well. For example, Asian Americans have a lower risk of prostate cancer than white Americans, but their risk is higher than that of men of similar backgrounds living in Asia. Family history Prostate cancer seems to run in some families, which suggests that in some cases there may be an inherited or genetic factor. (Still, most prostate cancers occur in men without a family history of it.)

This is the first video released from a hour long interview with the famous "Bike Tourist Podcast." The podcast consisted of the interviewer Gabriele in Puerto Rico and us (Tim and Cindie Travis) while we were passing through Canberra Australia. In this series of videos I isolated individual questions and put still pictures into corresponding parts of the interview. The question asked in this short video is: "How did the pictures you took in South America compare to what you saw first hand"?

*******south-america-travel-tips**** Why should you travel to South America? One reason is the wondrous variety of climates and landscapes on the continent. You can go skiing in South America or snowboarding in South America, scubadiving in South America, hiking and trekking, bungee jumping, whitewater rafting, searching for exotic wildlife, and on and on. Because of the range of elevations and climates, South America really does have something for everybody throughout the year. In the video we look at one example of Ecuador. In the video I forgot to mention the Galapagos Islands, probably because they go without saying. The Galapagos Islands are gorgeous tropical islands full of wildlife that can be found nowhere else. But also on the mainland of Ecuador, the coastal area is tropical and has plenty of gorgeous beaches. And just a little bit to the east lies the Andes Mountains, so you can go hiking, trekking, skiing, etc. in the mountains. Then in the eastern part of the country lies the Amazon basin, which is tropical jungle landscape that offers hikes, treks, and spectacular scenery and wildlife. Just in this one little country there is so much beauty and variety. And there are lots more countries to explore!

One of the things that makes it such a fantastic place is its stunning variety of elevations, climates, and landscapes. That provides the visitor with opportunities for a wide range of activities, and gives a choice of what kind of vacation you'd like to have. You can even mix and match tropical beaches with skiing, since both can be done in relatively close distances. South America has something for everyone.
