With The Avengers tearing up the summer movie season and still more great movies to look forward to in the coming months, this is turning out to be one of the best summer movie seasons ever. So how does next year compare? We take a look at some of the biggest movies we can look forward to next summer!
Robert Downey Jr returns on May 3rd as Iron Man for the third installment of the popular franchise. Tony Stark must face what is being called "real world threats" and from what we've heard so far, there will be lots of threats to worry about with several villainous roles already cast including Ben Kingsley as a rumored Mandarin, Guy Pearce in an as yet unnamed role as well as the possibility of an appearance by the cyborg Coldblood and Firepower, a suit similar to Iron Monger from the first film, but with, well, more firepower.
May 17th will bring us the return of the crew of the Starship Enterprise in the sequel to director J.J. Abrams Star Trek reboot. The secretive Abrams is keeping the plot under wraps, but we do know actor Benedict Cumerbatch will play a villian, which many believe to be that of the ruthless Khan. Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Zachary Quinto and the rest of the cast are set to return with Alice Eve and Peter Weller also joining.
Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson return for the sixth installment of The Fast and Furious franchise on May 24th. This time, the crew jump the pond to Europe to go head-to-head with a rival crew lead by Luke Evans to pull off a major heist. Michelle Rodriquez returns as Letty while Gina Carano joins the cast as an agent working for Johnson's Hobbs.
The Lone Ranger rides again with Johnny Depp taking on the iconic role of Tonto. Depp reunites with his Pirates of the Caribbean director and producer with Armie Hammer taking on the role of the masked man.
The Man of Steel returns on June 14th in director Zack Snyder's take on the Superman legend. Expect another origin story as Henry Cavill's Superman must discover his destiny and take on the evil General Zod in order to save the planet he's sworn to protect.
The long awaited World War Z hits theaters on June 21st starring Brad Pitt as a U.N. employee trying to stop a deadly Zombie outbreak.
The comic book R.I.P.D. gets a big screen adaptation on June 28th. Ryan Reynolds plays a recently slain cop who joins the Rest In Peace Department in order to find the man who murdered him.
July 26th marks the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in the sequel to 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This time Logan heads to Japan to train with a samuarai warrior and hopefully redeem himself for the first film.
The part prequel, part sequel, part completely different movie 300: Battle of Artemisia opens on August 2nd and stars Eva Green as the title character Artemisia and Rodrigo Santoro returns as Xerxes. The film will run parallel to 2006's 300 timeline and promises to go beyond the plot of that story as well.
And finally, jump from the past to the future on August 9th as officer Alex Murphy returns in the remake to the hit 80's franchise Robocop. Joel Kinnaman takes on the role made famous by Peter Weller with Gary Oldman playing the scientist who turns him into the cyborg cop built to clean up the city of Detroit.
So there you have it, some of the movies you can look forward to seeing next summer. Do you think next summer's lineup is even better than this year's or is the trifecta of The Avengers, Spider-Man and Batman just too powerful? Let us know in the comments section and be sure to tell us which movie you're most excited for. I'm Tatiana Carrier, thanks so much for watching!
Get a sneak preview of this summer's most anticipated movies including Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, The Dark Knight, Iron Man, Hancock, Wall-E and more.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is directed by Steven Spielberg and stars Harrison Ford, Cate Blanchett and Shia LeBeouf.
The Dark Knight is the newest in the Batman series and stars Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman.
Iron Man from Marvel Comics stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Terrence Howard, and Jeff Bridges.
Hancock stars Will Smith, Charlize Theron, and Jason Bateman.
Wall-E is from Pixar and doesn't star anyone since it is animated but I am sure it will still be a huge hit.

The summer movie season kicked off early this year with the release of Universal’s Fast Five.
Fast Five is the fifth film in the Fast and Furious series and marks the tenth anniversary for the franchise that’s famous for cool cars and edge of your seat, high-speed races.
The film is expected to shift the box-office into high gear after raking in a mammoth 33 million dollars on Friday alone. Josh Weinstein from The Wrap says this could be just what Hollywood needs right now...
“A strong opening could mark the end of this ho-hum box office year for the industry in general and the beginning of better days...”
And better days at the box office is just what Universal Pictures had in mind when it picked up Fast Five for distribution. President of domestic distribution for the company tells the LA Times...
“My deepest hope is that this is the first movie in a summer that can turn around all the negativity that’s been out there about the box office.”
But some are surprised by the franchise’s staying power. Tim Appelo from the Hollywood Reporter says...
“Wait a minute! The fifth movie in an action franchise is supposed to be less popular than the rest -- but Fast Five is the year's biggest hit so far.”
According to Alt Film Guide- Fast Five proves that Hollywood’s business strategy of churning out sequels- really works.
“The success of Fast Five is the very reason for that business strategy: Audiences the world over flock to see the same crap over and over again.”
And if the box-office numbers don’t say enough about the success of Fast Five- check out some of the rave reviews from the audience.
GRACE RANDOLPH: "Does this franchise get better and better or worse and worse?"
FAN #1: "No it gets better and better."
FAN #2: "Definitely better. The movie is unbelievable."
FAN #3: "Way Better."
FAN #4: "Honestly, it gets better and better."
