"Progress in Iraq cannot be measured by the same ideological fantasies that got us into this war -- it must be measured by the reality of the facts on the ground. And today those sobering facts tell us to change our strategy and bring a responsible end to this war," Obama said. "What we need today is a surge in honesty."
The fact remains Iraq is on the verge of a civil war and the situation does not look good according to scholars well versed in Iraqi history, policy, and the current political situation.
"While we are training Iraqi's we do not know who they are loyal too. The truth is, right now Iran is emerging as the big winner from our invasion of Iraq." (General Wes Clark)
"The idea that we can stand up the Iraqi forces then come home is nice, simple, and American idea but does not reflect the reality of Iraq. While America has been in Northern Iraq working against the Sunni insurgents, Iran has been strengthening its position in the south, building up its Shiite militia allies and infiltrating the armed forces." (General Wes Clark)
The United States Marine Corps takes farmboys off tractors from the Dakotas, inner city youth from Los Angeles to New York City, skiiers from Denver, surfers from San Diego and everything in-between and turns them into an elite fighting combat ready fighting force in sixteen weeks.
Yet, two and a half years after training, not a single unit of the Iraqi security force is capable of standing on its own...

This beautiful home is nestled at the edge of the foothills, and just steps away from the Dakota Ridge trailhead which takes you up to Mount Sanitas and the Sanitas Valley Trail.
One of the amazing features that benefit you with this house is the fact that it sits on a quarter acre lot. With its position on the land, there’s just the perfect amount of privacy and coziness. Now don’t get hung up on my use of that word “cozy”, which is often a euphemism for small. There isn’t anything small feeling about this land or this home.
The trees and foliage surround this home in such a meaningful way that, even with all the wonderful windows on the south side of the home, you really do feel like you’re living in your own private oasis.
Another element of this home that truly pleased me was the way the architectural interior details make the living spaces feel warm, friendly and intimately spacious, rather than simply voluminous space as with many newer large home.
So now comes size… this home has over 4100 finished square feet including a wonderful finished 1100 finished square foot basement. The home has a brand new roof, and the kitchen and baths are all exquisitely upgraded.
There are four bedrooms, four bathrooms, formal dining, recreation room, a study/office on the main floor, a family room with a fireplace and wet-bar, and even a retreat in the master bedroom.
If you think taking a look at the inside of this home, or any other in Boulder that peaks your interest, call or email me now so that I can make arrangements for your personal tour.

http://zacharyepps.com/old-north-boulder-neighborhood-profile/ The area between Broadway, Folsom, Iris, and Edgewood/Balsam streets is now commonly called the Old North Boulder neighborhood. See more useful Boulder real estate market information at http://www.zacharyepps.com Prior to the time that land was developed beyond Norwood, this area was North Boulder. Now with development stretching to the far reaches of the Dakota Ridge neighborhood, the Old North Boulder neighborhood is really a very central residential opportunity. I’ve spent many days exploring on foot, the roads and paths around central Boulder, and if you do the same you’ll come to realize just how close everything is in this part of town. It’s only a few blocks between local landmarks such as Vics and Ideal Market, over to Pearl Street, or up to Salberg Park. The two sister shopping centers, Ideal Marketplace and Community Plaza are home to many local favorites. Ideal Market has a long history that spans well beyond the age of the current shopping center, and it became an anchor for the other shops back in 1958. The Community Plaza shops on the south side of Alpine were built just two years later in 1960. Other businesses such as Alpine Barbers, Radda Restaurant, Breadworks, Marie’s Restaurant, The Boulder Wine Merchant, and the Pekoe Sip House give residents of the Old North Boulder neighborhood a plethora of opportunity for meeting most shopping needs without much travel. What a great concept in the days of higher gas prices and strong desires to conserve natural resources. One of those local businesses that’s been thriving in the area, The Pekoe Sip House, has a decade long history in the area. It was originally founded as the Tea Train in Longmont. After many accolades, and eventually being voted as having the Best Tea, and being the Best Tea House in the Denver Metro area in 2000, Tea Train evolved into Pekoe Sip House and moved to Boulder under the new name in 2003. Schools that service the area include Casey Middle school, Columbine Elementary and Centennial Middle school to the north. The former Washington Elementary school which is north of Cedar Ave, and just south of the Red Arrow Condos is now part of a redevelopment plan that’s been fairly controversial. For those not wanting to drive, and seeking public transportation, RTD offers the Skip bus line which runs up and down Broadway. If biking is your thing, don’t risk your life jousting with cars on Broadway, try 13th street; it features its own bike lane straight into the heart of downtown. If you’re considering a move, and want to explore more of what the Old North Boulder neighborhood has for you, call or email me today to get started! -Zachary Epps, full-time professional Realtor® and EcoBroker® at RE/MAX Alliance Boulder

Nov. 7, 2008 In parts of the Dakotas, a fall blizzard has dumped several feet of snow. High winds have blown that snow into even higher drifts.
People in Indiana, Michigan, the Dakotas, and Iowa got quite a show Wednesday night. A sheriff's deputy's dash cam caught a meteor on tape in eastern Iowa.
'Bad To Me' was a song that John Lennon wrote for Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas. Their version is ok, Lennon's is better.
This version is me. I'm playing the composition a little differently. I don't have a camera so I had to make a video of the lyrics instead.

DISCLAIMER!!! Dakota Fire Holes can be dangerous! Make sure you do everything you can to put out the fire! What you won't see on this video was me pouring water on the fire to put it out before I buried it. Before leaving any fire, make sure you douse it thoroughly with water and bury it. Dakota Fire Holes can cause root fires and can smolder well beyond the time you bury it.

In this video, I go through the process of making a Dakota Fire Hole. A couple of weeks ago I was in a situation where I was reminded just how awesome this fire skill is in the woods.
Towards the beginning of August I was leading a group of boys on a backpacking trip through the Allegheny National Forest. On day one, we came upon a lean-to shelter that we were planning to utilize as a base camp for the night. The only problem was that we didn't want to cook near our campsite because I knew the location was prone to black bear activity due to previous experience in the area.
I also didn't want to create a new fire pit/ring in the woods as they quickly accumulate as groups go through and in turn, quickly degrade the natural scenery of the forest. In comes the Dakota fire hole.
In this video I demonstrate how to make one of these as well as go through and talk about the pros and cons of this technique. I also talk about when this technique is handy and when it is not so handy. Finally, I show you just how effective this technique is by boiling 2 cups of water in just over 5 minutes. The Dakota Indians were genius in inventing this technique.
In terms of cooking, this is my "go-to" fire technique as these fires burn hotter, require less wood for sufficient cooking, are quasi-stealthy, and are quick to extinguish among other things.
If you have any experience in utilizing this fire technique or any insights you can pass along, I would love to hear it in the comments section below!
See you outdoors!
The song sample you heard in the intro was from the finger-style guitarist, David Youngman. I highly recommend you check him out.
