In an attempt to overcome my own prejudices against old and/or black and white movies that are actually worth watching but don't seem so because of their boring opening credits, here is a motion graphics piece that combines contemporary music and interesting graphics that help to brand the movie more for an audience of today's generation. Could also serve as a movie trailer.

In 1996, Orgone Cinema gave me a short 35mm filmstrip to add a soundtrack to for a FILMSTRIPS show they were planning. This was the result. The sound is full of displacement jokes, occult references (inspired by Aleister Crowley) , experimental film self-reference to 'artifacts', & all sorts of esoterica too complex to go into here. The title alone, of course, conflates the 'noir' bk/film "The Postman Always Rings Twice" (there's sampling from that film) w/ a reference to the ceremonial magikal meaning of a homunculous as a magikally produced 'little man' - as if he's the product of the cross-fertilization of the comedies of Woody Allen w/ the experimental filmmaking of Hollis Frampton. This is what got me started in my ongoing interest in creating filmstrips that explore possibilities ignored by their original educational purposes. - April 2009EV notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE

Pictured: the cast of "Tomorrow Morning" including Charissa Armon, Michael Mahler, Jonathan Rayson and Emily Thompson in rehearsal with playwright, composer and lyricist Laurence Mark Wythe. From Hilary A. Williams, London producer of "Whos Afraid of Virgina Woolf" with Kathleen Turner and "The Postman Always Rings Twice" with Val Kilmer and the Chicago Director Tom Mullen ("Urinetown," "I Love You, Youre Perfect, Now Change") comes the exciting Chicago premiere of "Tomorrow Morning," an acclaimed new musical by accomplished U.K. playwright, composer and lyricist Laurence Mark Wythe. "Tomorrow Morning" runs Friday, Oct. 31 through Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008 at the Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 N. Lincoln Avenue, Chicago. For more info, visit www.tomorrowmorningthemusical**** "Tomorrow Morning" is about two couples—one is contemplating the end of their relationship, the other is on the brink of a deeper commitment. The couples, though separated by time, are bound together by the uncertainty of impending change and the ultimately redeeming power of love. Tomorrow Morning is filled with humor and sensitivity. British critics have called the score witty and poignant (Whats on Stage****) with searing ballads and snappy, insightful comedy numbers (Stage). An early version of "Tomorrow Morning" had its world premiere in Londons New End Theatre on July 10, 2006. That same year it was honored in Theatre Radio's Best Musical of 2006 competition and this past October was a finalist for the National Alliance for Musical Theatre's annual festival of new works in New York. In August 2007 a first draft of an Americanized script previewed in a reading at Theatre Building Chicagos Stages Festival of New Musicals. Now, for the 2008 full production staging, additional significant adjustments have been made to the script, and songs have been deleted and added to raise the dramatic stakes. The cast of "Tomorrow Morning" includes •Charissa Armon (Katherine) was most recently seen as Avia in "Unlockd at Ravinia." Other Chicago credits include Woman 1 in "I Love You, Youre Perfect, Now Change" at Noble Fool Theatricals, and Mother in "Ragtime" (After Dark Award recipient /Jeff Nomination) at Porchlight Music Theatre. •Michael Mahler (John). The clip alices-brother-taught-her-how-to-kiss from Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1975) with Ellen Burstyn, Kris Kristofferson. Powered by: Anyclip. any moment from any film. -Your own brother taught you how to kiss? -I don't mean he demonstrated. He told me that the worst thing that can happen... is if a boy feels like he's put his lips in a bowl of wet oatmeal. At least he said "lips." So the most important thing to remember before you kiss... is to wipe your mouth real good and keep your lips together... so he doesn't kiss your teeth. We went to see The Postman Always Rings Twice. And there was this big close-up of... What's her name? Lana Turner and John Garfield, right? They're coming together. Big dramatic moment. At last, they're going to kiss. The music's playing. It's very dramatic. Just as they come together, they both open their mouths. I thought, "My God, don't they know how to kiss? What's wrong with them?" I turned and looked at my brother to see what he was going to say. He didn't move, he was just looking at screen. He didn't say anything for three weeks. Then all of a sudden one day, he says: "Well, Al, I've been thinking." -Al? -Yes, he always called me Al. "l think maybe you're supposed to part your lips a little bit when you kiss." God bless him. If not, I had my work cut out for me. So anyway, and then...
