With releases on respected labels including Yellow Tail, Rebirth, Night Drive Music and Deib Audio, Lemon Popsicle are currently enjoying a growing reputation for their edgy flavour of deep house. Established by the combined force of Wollion (BluFin) and Sandrino (Sprout) plus producer Adrian Pietrasch, the German trio is the forefront of a new, deeper house sound. Deeply textured and full of twists and turns, Bistra is a bit of a head twister for those summer terrace moments. Subtly energetic with a muscular groove, this is modern day deep house with a sting in the tail that manages to combine sublime melodic moods with high euphoric elements. Zavoaie treads a darker path, making use of rolling tribal rhythms and off-kilter bass tones to set the atmosphere. Paced to a steady hypnotic groove and littered with futuristic effects, Zavoaie exemplifies Lemon Popsicles mastery of the shadier end of the deep house spectrum. Andy Chatterley (Saved Records, Forensic) provides the first of two remixes on the package of Bistra. Cutting up the main riff and looping it over a swaggering beat, his mix transforms the deep hypnotic original into a pounding tech house fusion of punchy bottom end and warm synth stabs. Sebastian Davidson (Global Underground, Noir) stays true to the lushness of the original but holds out for a slightly more progressive take on the deep house model. Dreamlike and melodic, his mix is a smooth ride through swaying beats, soothing pads and heady atmospherics ALiVE Recordings boss Tom Budden gets in on the act to round off the package. Sounding extremely current and drawing on an amalgamation of shuffling tribal tech house with splashes of dubbed-out house, Tom has conjured up a smoldering percussive bomb.

Having played host to productions and collaborations by label owner Tom Budden, Alive Recordings now shows off their first signing from the exciting Lemon Popsicle. Founded by Cologne techno producer, Wollion along with friends Sandrino and Adrian, Lemon Popsicle have already turned heads with their productions for label including Rebirth and TwoFaces. With the list of names supporting the label now including Carl Cox, Danny Howells, Kevin Yost and James Zabiela things continue to go from strength to strength for this young label. Having remixed the previous release on the label - Mercury D - it was natural for Lemon Popsicle to jump at the chance of releasing the EP and to give their backing to Alive Recordings. In its original form The Ladder is tough-edged but restrained piece of tech house. Blending old school stabs with smooth grooves and shimmering keys this is a track that stays true to its deep house inspiration while tipping a nod to the requirements of todays tougher dancefloors.
