Are you guys ready for the future of video game graphics? Well good, because EPIC is ready to show it to you. Last week at GDC Epic showed off a real-time demo of the new Unreal 3 engine in a video code-named "Samaritan," and it's now available for public consumption. What do you think? Is this the future? Aside from pretty tech demos, Max and Tara chat about the new FPS Warm Gun, the possibility of a Dance Hero franchise, the reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise, and the success of the Kinect. Plus, get drunk on NES.

Video of the In-Game tutorial created as a Kismet sequence for UDK iOS game Flashbike Arena. Flashbike Arena is now available for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch and was developed using Epic's Unreal Development Kit (UDK). In Flashbike Arena you control a futuristic motorbike, a "Flashbike", which leaves a colored wall in its wake. Points are earned by causing enemies to crash into their own or your wall. Additional points and multipliers can be earned through collecting the "energy cores" left behind as the wreckage of a crashed bike. It's these cores that power the bikes and generate their walls! The human can only see 72 frames per second. In the gaming world we have been seeing 60 frames. Some people in the gaming industry believe we are reaching the apex in photorealistic gaming. Tim Sweeney of Epic games begs to differ. According to Sweeney the visual apex can only be achieved with computing power reaching 2000 times what we have today. Visual reality at its height would have to reach about 5000 Trillion operations per second. Unreals new “Samaritan: Engine as demonstrated at last years Game Developers Conference only required 2.5 trillion calculations per second and what we saw was amazing. Currently Xbox 360 calculates at .25 trillion calculations, a mere fraction of what can be achieved. “Xbox 720” has its work cut out for it when it comes to whats required for developers to fully realize there gaming vision.
