A 47-foot boat crew from Coast Guard Station Gloucester launches to help in the search for Jaime Ortiz, 43, who was working on the stern of the Dominatrix, a 39-foot lobster boat, when he fell overboard at about 2 p.m., off the coast of Gloucester, Mass. NEW ORLEANS -- Crewmembers from U.S. Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans medevac a man after the vessel he was aboard sank in heavy seas, today. The man was one of seven rescued from the Gulf of Mexico after their vessel the, MissinÕ Link sank 130 miles southeast of Galveston Texas. All seven crewmembers were rescued by the research vessel, Mystic Viking, after being guided by a a U.S. Coast Guard HU-144A Ocean Sentry to a life raft where the remaining six people were aboard. SAN DIEGO -- Crews from Coast Guard Sector San Diego rescued three people after their 21-foot boat became disabled 27 miles southwest of San Diego Monday, Oct. 19, 2009. An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew spotted the boaters in distress around 10 p.m., and a 33-foot rescue boat from Station San Diego was launched. The boat crew found the boaters experiencing severe sea sickness and dehydration, and transported them to Shelter Island, where they were transferred to Emergency Medical personnel in good condition. HOUSTON - In this video released by the tank ship Krymsk response unified command, a DC3 aircraft deploys dispersant to an oil sheen 40 miles off of Galveston Oct. 21, 2009, after an estimated 18,000 gallons of fuel oil were spilled from the Krymsk Oct. 20, 2009. The unified command decided to deploy dispersant after determining that on-water oil recovery methods would not work due to weather conditions. Dispersants are products that are applied to the water surface in order to break up surface oil slicks, a process called dispersion, and facilitate the movement of oil particles into the water column.
