This tutorial is continued with full written instructions at http://WordpressVideos.TV In this video, we're gonna take a look at WordPress widgets and how to use those widgets on your WordPress blog. Now, the first thing you need to do is make sure that you have installed a WordPress theme that supports WordPress widgets. This should not be a problem if you are downloading a theme that has been recently updated, but older themes may not support WordPress widgets, so make sure you have a theme that supports WordPress widgets. The default WordPress theme supports WordPress widgets, so that's what I'm gonna show you today an example of how to use widgets using the default theme. First, you need to click on Appearance, and click on Widgets. And in this section, you can select which sidebar you want to edit. Some themes may have more than one sidebar. But the default theme has only one sidebar, so you can select the sidebar that you wanna edit here, and these are all the widgets that you can add to the sidebar. So you can have a look at all these widgets. I'm gonna add the Recent Comments widget. And then I'm gonna add Tag Cloud, and Recent Postsalright. So I've added three widgets to my sidebar, and you'll notice that each of the widgets can be moved to edit the order that the widgets appear on your sidebar. For example, if I want Tag Cloud to appear at the bottom section of my sidebar, I can just move it right to the bottom. And you'll also notice that most of the widgets can be edited by clicking on the Edit link, so I can give this Recent Posts widget a title, and I can also select the amount of posts that I want to show. So if I wanna show 10 posts, I'd edit to 10, and click on Done. And I can also edit the Recent Comments. So for example, if I wanna show eight of the most recent comments, I click on Done again, and then when I'm done making the changes, I just click on Save Changes. Alright. And you can see that now, my Recent Posts and my Tag Cloud widget have already been used up, so I cannot edit anymore to any other sidebar, but there are other widgets here that you can have a look at; for example, a Text widget, which is really very useful if you want to add in banners or any type of HTML or even AdSense ads onto your sidebar. You can just use the Text widget. And you can see, the Text widget is prettyvery flexible, and give it a title, and you can enter anything you want, as long as it's valid HTML in this section, and click on Done.

This tutorial is continued with full written instructions at http://WordpressVideos.TV In this video, I'm gonna show you how to display banner ads on your WordPress blog using the Max Banner Ads WordPress Plugin. Now, this plugin is not listed in the WordPress.org directory, so you probably need to go to Google.com and search for max banner ads. And then click on to the Max Banner Ads website and on this website, you can watch a video to see how the Max Banner Ads plugin actually works, and then you can just click on Download Now to download the plugin, extract the plugin, and then upload it to your WordPress wp-content folder. Once you have uploaded the plugin, then you can just look for it in your WordPress plugins page, and in this case, I'm actually using the Max Banner Ads PRO version of the plugin, which you can always purchase later. The only difference is that with the normal version, with the standard version, there is a link to the Max Banner Ads plugin itself. However, you can customize that link with your own ClickBank ID.

This tutorial is continued with full written instructions at http://WordpressVideos.TV So let's take a look at how to upgrade your WordPress plugins automatically in your WordPress blog. The first thing you need to do is click on the plugins tab here, and just check all the currently installed WordPress plugins and see which ones need to be updated. In the list of your currently active plugins, and even for your inactive plugins, you'll be able to see if there's a new version of a particular plugin available, and it says here that A new version is available, and to upgrade automatically, all I need to do is click on this link here. Now, WordPress is gonna ask me for some information on my web server namely the hostname, username, and password. So your hostname is usually ftp. your domain name, and your username is your cPanel log-in username, and your password is your cPanel password as well. Now, make sure you have chosen Connection Type as FTP and unless you have a secure FTP connection, then you can choose FTPS for SSL, which means it's secure socket layer. But for now, just choose FTP and click on Proceed. And you can see that my plugin has been updated automatically. What happens is that WordPress first downloads the update from the WordPress plugin repository, and then it unpacks the update, it deactivates the older version of the plugin, it removes the older version of the plugin, and then it installs the latest version of the plugin. And finally, it reactivates your plugin if it's currently activated, and if it's not currently activated, then you'll be prompted for activation of the plugin, and that's how you automatically upgrade any existing plugins in your WordPress blog.
