*******www.nucleusinc****/medical-animation This 3D medical animation depicts a normal vaginal birth using a time-lapse effect. Strong uterine contractions push the fetus forcibly through the birth canal during labor. Concurrently, a picture-in-picture effect at the upper right shows the baby's head moving through the mother's pelvic outlet.

*******yourbirthcoach**** Video of my second home birth. It was about 6 hours of labor from early beginnings to birth. This video starts when things start to feel "pushy." Up until this point I was silent during my contractions. You can watch my labor here *******www.youtube****/watch?v=1dP1N6wB9kU The sounds women make in labor may make it seem as if it is painful, but I can assure you pain was not part of this birth experience. The sounds of pushing help when using all your effort, just like with intense exercise (tennis players hitting the ball). With this birth it really just felt like I needed to have a BM. I didn't want any noise around me or anyone talking. My birth team was great because they really just left me to do my work without disturbance. I did appreciate my midwife saying to go slow when I feel the burn. She said it at the exact right time and that definately helped make getting the head out so easy and gentle. It is one of the great things about midwifery care, they observe you so carefully that they know just where you are and what you need. Our son was born in our home in the presence of my husband, my daughter (2 1/2 at the time), my mom, 2 friends (mom and daughter), and 2 midwives. Please leave you questions and comments. *******yourbirthcoach****

giving birth naturally - no pain medication Baby born at 9:52pm on Tuesday July 27th, 2010. 7 lbs. 13 oz. baby boy. 38 weeks pregnant (previous pregnancies were 3-5 days late so we didn't really expect labor 2 weeks early) Any prayers for our baby boy are welcome as he recovers from some health challenges (related to his kidney and ability to urinate). He's in great hands and we hope to have him home within a week....Thank you!! I had planned non medicated birth but birth took place hospital with my midwife because I was a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarian section) so risk is considered higher and home birth was not an option because of this. We were thankful to be in a hospital once we were surprised to learn that our newborn son needed medical intervention immediately after birth. Update: He is doing great!! Home with us and we're all so happy and blessed! See him now: *******www.youtube****/watch?v=JBEuhJeiYhY Check out my blog and read the full story about my labor, childbirth, and my newborn son's medical challenges right after birth at *******supermomwannabe**** My many different childbirth experiences - *******www.youtube****/watch?v=ZYQBIw5fLLg

Natural childbirth is a philosophy of childbirth that is based on the belief that women who are adequately prepared are innately able to give birth without routine medical interventions. Natural childbirth arose in opposition to the techno-medical model of childbirth that has recently gained popularity in industrialized societies, and is a childbirth philosophy that attempts to minimize medical intervention, particularly the use of anesthetic medications and surgical interventions such as episiotomies, forceps and ventouse deliveries and caesarean sections. A woman's definition of 'natural' may range from no intervention at all to birth which includes any intervention deemed appropriate. The application of this philosophy may occur during a physician or midwife attended hospital birth, a midwife attended homebirth, or an unassisted birth. The term "natural childbirth" was coined by obstetrician Grantly Dick-Read upon publication of his book Natural Childbirth in the 1930s, which was followed by the 1942 Childbirth Without Fear.
