http://www.nucleusinc.com/medical-animation This 3D medical animation depicts a normal vaginal birth using a time-lapse effect. Strong uterine contractions push the fetus forcibly through the birth canal during labor. Concurrently, a picture-in-picture effect at the upper right shows the baby's head moving through the mother's pelvic outlet.

giving birth naturally - no pain medication Baby born at 9:52pm on Tuesday July 27th, 2010. 7 lbs. 13 oz. baby boy. 38 weeks pregnant (previous pregnancies were 3-5 days late so we didn't really expect labor 2 weeks early) Any prayers for our baby boy are welcome as he recovers from some health challenges (related to his kidney and ability to urinate). He's in great hands and we hope to have him home within a week....Thank you!! I had planned non medicated birth but birth took place hospital with my midwife because I was a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarian section) so risk is considered higher and home birth was not an option because of this. We were thankful to be in a hospital once we were surprised to learn that our newborn son needed medical intervention immediately after birth. Update: He is doing great!! Home with us and we're all so happy and blessed! See him now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBEuhJeiYhY Check out my blog and read the full story about my labor, childbirth, and my newborn son's medical challenges right after birth at http://supermomwannabe.com My many different childbirth experiences - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYQBIw5fLLg

Natural childbirth is a philosophy of childbirth that is based on the belief that women who are adequately prepared are innately able to give birth without routine medical interventions. Natural childbirth arose in opposition to the techno-medical model of childbirth that has recently gained popularity in industrialized societies, and is a childbirth philosophy that attempts to minimize medical intervention, particularly the use of anesthetic medications and surgical interventions such as episiotomies, forceps and ventouse deliveries and caesarean sections. A woman's definition of 'natural' may range from no intervention at all to birth which includes any intervention deemed appropriate. The application of this philosophy may occur during a physician or midwife attended hospital birth, a midwife attended homebirth, or an unassisted birth. The term "natural childbirth" was coined by obstetrician Grantly Dick-Read upon publication of his book Natural Childbirth in the 1930s, which was followed by the 1942 Childbirth Without Fear.

Childbirth, labor, delivery, birth, partus, or parturition is the culmination of a period of pregnancy with the expulsion of one or more newborn infants from a woman's uterus. The process of normal childbirth is categorized in three stages of labour: the shortening and dilation of the cervix, descent and birth of the infant, and birth of the placenta. Birth, also known as parturition, is the act or process of bearing or bringing forth offspring.[1] In mammals, the process is initiated by hormones which cause the muscular walls of the uterus to contract, expelling the foetus at a developmental stage where it can feed and breathe. In some species the offspring is precocial and can move around almost immediately after birth but in others it is altricial and completely dependent on parenting. In marsupials, the foetus is born at a very immature stage after a short gestational period and develops further in its mother's pouch. It is not only mammals that give birth. Some reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates carry their developing young inside them. Some of these are ovoviviparous, with the eggs being hatched inside the mother's body, and others are viviparous, with the embryo developing inside her body, as in mammals.
