MTV’s new hit – ‘Skins’ – is rubbing parents the wrong way. It’s sex, drugs, drinking – and, did we mention sex? NBC has a first look. ROSSEN: “The actors here are real teenagers aged 15 to 19 – doing things like this (Teens making out), this (Teen boy grinding on girl, rubbing her chest), and this (Drunk girl slung over the shoulder of teen boy).” ACTOR: “Is she still breathing?” After Skins’ huge premiere – with more than 3 million viewers – the Parents Television Council took action – sending a formal complaint to Congress. MSNBC and HLN explain the big problem. ENTERTAINMENT WRITER: “Now there’s concern that an upcoming episode might violate child pornography laws—and that is because one of the actors who under the age of 18—he’s 17—you see his full backside. And that is something you’re just plain not allowed to do.” (MSNBC) LEGAL ANALYST: “There’s been conversations centered around – how close can we come, or have we come, to violating a federal statute – and you know, making sure that they’re sort of within the boundaries. Well, this is not a line that you want to even gets close to toeing.” (HLN) MTV is reportedly taming down future episodes. But probably not for parents or Congress. A TV Guide writer tells ABC – it’s for money. TV GUIDE WRITER: “If there’s any pressure that MTV is going to submit to, it would be from advertisers.” REPORTER: “So far, the Skins scandal has resulted in at least one advertiser, Taco Bell, pulling its commercials from future shows.” On the other side of the argument -- a CNN anchor mom-to-be – and a Fox panelist who says – vote with your remote. PHILLIPS: “Let’s be realistic here…you know, teens are dealing with sex, drugs, alcohol as young as 15…even younger. So, much of this is reality TV, even though it is actors.” (CNN) PANELIST: “It’s on a cable network. It airs at 10 o’clock at night. It’s not like this is geared toward children. I think if people don’t want to watch it, then they just won’t watch it. And I feel for people with teens out there, but maybe this is an opportunity that they can use to talk about these issues with their kids.” (FOX) Finally, many are asking – where – and WHO – are these kids’ parents? The Skins cast tells MTV – they’re fans. CRESENCIA-MILLS: “My parents are the ones who showed me the first two seasons of the UK, so I think they know what’s going to happen. (Actors all laugh)” FLAHERTY: “I actually watched part of the first season with my family too, so I mean, they’re excited for me and they think it’s an awesome show.” So do you think Skins is too sexy?
