Infection refers to the invasion of our body by any disease causing organism, their multiplication and production of toxins. There are several different types of viruses that can infect our body. While many of these viruses only result in a mild infection that often resolves by itself, few of them may cause fatal infections. Further, symptoms of viral infection may not be noted in all. Hence, it becomes important to know about viral infections.
How do viruses infect us?
Viruses enter a normal living cell and then use these cells to multiply in large numbers. While doing this they can kill the cell, alter its functioning or cause it function excessively or minimally. Eventually, such a viral infection can make you sick. These viruses can often attack specific organs in your body, such as the lungs, liver, or even the blood.
Does viral infection always make us ill?
The body’s self-protection system, known as the immune system, can ward off several viral infections. Vaccinations can also help prevent many infections by strengthening the immune system. However, you can get ill when the immune system is not able to handle the infecting virus. These can result in the symptoms of viral infection.
What are the symptoms of viral infection?
Common cold, flu and warts are some of the common viral infections. Such infections are generally associated with symptoms such as fever, cough, chills and cold. The viruses causing these infections can spread from one person to another commonly through the body fluids expelled during a cough or sneeze. Some of the viruses can cause severe conditions such as AIDS, smallpox or Ebola. These infections are associated with a wide variety of symptoms ranging from fever to severe disability. Sharing needles, sexual intercourse with an infected individual or bites from infected animals can also cause the spread of viral infections.

India Successfully Tests Fires Brahmos Missile From Su-30MKI | Latest Video Viral Trending | -
Brahmos creates history, successfully test-fired from Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft
The fastest supersonic cruise missile in the world–the Brahmos– created history on Wednesday when it was successfully test-fired for the first time from an Indian Air Force’s Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft against a sea-based target in the Bay of Bengal. The missile was not launched directly from the aircraft, rather it was dropped from under its fuselage. The missile’s two-stage engine then fired up propelling it towards the target at supersonic speeds. A video grab showing the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, that was fired succesfully for the first time from a Sukhoi-30MKI fighter jet of the Indian Air Force, above the Bay of Bengal. The missile was gravity dropped from the Su-30MKI from its fuselage, and the two-stage missile’s engine fired up and was propelled towards the intended target in the Bay of Bengal.
This test effectively gives the Indian armed forces the ability to fire Brahmos Air Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM). According to a post launch release by the Ministry of Defence, the successful test firing “will significantly bolster the IAF’s air combat operations capability from stand-off ranges.” In the image above, land-attack version of Brahmos supersonic cruise missile being successfully test-fired by the Navy in the Bay of Bengal.
The Brahmos ALCM weighs 2.5 tonne and till date it is the heaviest weapon to be deployed on the Su-30 MKI. The aircraft was especially modified by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd for giving it the missile-carrying capability. The missile is propelled first by a solid propellant booster engine that takes it to supersonic speeds. After it separates, the missile is accelerated further to around three times the speed of sound (mach 3) in the cruise phase with a liquid ramjet.

Rashes can have different appearances – red flat areas, raised bumps, blisters, welts or any combination of these. It is common for the rash to spread to most or all of the body before it goes away. The rash may last from a couple of days to a couple of weeks.
Ways to avoid spreading viral infections
Viruses are spread by direct contact. The best way to prevent spreading viruses is to wash hands after touching any bodily fluid and avoid sharing items like cutlery, drinking cups, towels, toothbrushes and clothing.
What should I expect / look out for?
Often the viral infection causing the rash will also cause a fever. The fever may happen at the start of the illness, before the rash appears, or at the same time as the rash appearing.
If your child has a fever and has a rash of small bright red or purple spots or bruises which do not turn white (blanch) when you push on them, you should seek emergency medical care. See the Kids Health Info factsheet: Meningococcal infection.
Could it be measles?
Measles is a viral infection that causes fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and a rash which appears about two to three days after the initial symptoms. The measles rash is red, blotchy, starts on the head and then spreads to the rest of the body.
Measles can be dangerous, especially for young children and babies. Measles is very contagious and is spread by droplets from coughing and sneezing. It can be spread by just being in the same room as someone with measles.
