I was walking to Waterloo train station yesterday when I stumbled across an army of naked cyclists!
According to its website, *******www.worldnakedbikeride****/uk/, its all about 'peaceful, imaginative and fun protest against oil dependency and car culture. A celebration of the bicycle and also a celebration of the power and individuality of the human body.
It was funny, and actually quite inspiring, to see - not least because there were so many people taking part! It actually gives me some hope that the tide of puritanism sweeping the country may yet be turned.

August 15th, Riders gathered in Tower Grove Park, St. Louis, MO to protest oil dependency, to promote comfortable body image, to raise awareness of cyclists in a motor-driven world and to bring together cycling community. Several hundred riders stripped down and rode through the streets of St. Louis to get the message across. The ride ended up at the Atomic Cowboy where riders enjoyed refreshments and music.

World Naked Bike Rides purpose was to draw attention to oil dependency and the negative social and environmental impacts of a car dominated culture.
This is what it is like riding along Oxford St during the World Naked Bike Ride. Around 1000 cyclists plus thousands of cheering shoppers and tourists created a big carnival atmosphere.

The world naked bike ride, where bikers are encouraged to wear helmets but not clothes, hit Portland, Ore. this weekend. The event is held annually to raise awareness of fossil fuel consumption and to encourage sustainable transportation.
