Simple math prank for your friends. The trick is that you cannot simplify by (x-y) because it equals 0, so it's impossible.

this is way wrong
in your last step your are dividing by zero since your intial statement sets x=y. That is not a legal algerbraic move.

The 2 is multiplied by (X-Y), which is EQUAL TO ZERO (Just like the (X-Y) (X-Y) on the other side by 0 0 = 0 ... )

You can could only write 2= 1 if (X-Y) = 1 but it wouldn,t make any sense.

The true thing to say is that 2x0 = 1x0
