there're 2 slots cut behind the straw where the string passes through out and back into the straw, so the string is clearly visible to the performer. when he bends the straw, his thumb secures the string closely to the straw and at the same time the index finger is (0:08) hiding the string. he then cuts the straw without cutting the string. Git?

This is what I think:
like most magic tricks, ppl use the fingers, or in this case, thumbs, to hide whatever they need to hide. THEN, they draw ur attention away from their fingers e.i the pulling of the string.
If you look carefully, you can see that some parts of the straw(before and after) are lighter then the rest, this is where string is not present...
Am i right, loup226?, please tell me!!!

you cut a slit the long way in the staw towards the center.when you pull on it the inside string gets pulled away from where the cut is made.nice job
