    you say in your video that this connects the laser diode directly to the batteries. Is there anyway to avoid this by connecting the diode to something before it is connected to the battery ? like a fuse or the equivalent to it for a laser

      I never made a burning laser. I want to try. To your question. You could wire a fuse between your power source and the laser diode. The fuse size i couldn't tell you but it would help control the the power flowing through the diode reducing heat but it may take away or weaken the burning laser. Like i said i never made one before so i couldn't tell you for sure.
      All a heat sink is usually a group of metal plates that is attached to what ever that needs to be kept cool and the metal plates extends away from the device allow the heat to be pulled away from the device. in this case the diode. The air around it will help cool off the metal plates(heat sink) those cooling down the diode. Like i said never did this before. I worked with computers and home built robots.

      because i found a website that sells a 200 mw red laser with a focusable lens for "optimal" burning power. its only $43 but they wont send to the U.S. were i live. maybe if you live out of the U.S. we could work something out were i pay you through PayPal and you send it to me... :) if not thanks for your help with the whole heatsink fuse advise

      actually, he didn't copy it from kipkay. If you can see, he uses only the 650nm laser module and the minimeg flashlight. No DVD-Burner diode. This is actually faster and less of a pain because you don't have to fiddle around with getting the new model of the 650nm 12x30mm where the adjustable lens is on the inside instead of outside
