  • I don't understand how this could

possibly work, the structure of the DVD is entirelly different than CD-ROM. Different track density and different pit/bump configuration. If it was as simple as this why wouldn't many older DVD drives read all types of DVD's ( R or -R, DVD ROM, DVD RAM etc.)

      • skeptical...

what brand of cd-rom is that.....
i suspect that this is just dvd-rom internals in cd-rom shell in order to get a bunch of page views...

        • Yes, and someone posted the exact video

And almost made PR with it too, just to scam more. Here's why it doesn't work: Once again, the encoding rate between DVDs and CDs is different, but the 780nm IR laser used in a CD-ROM drive cannot detect the pits in a DVD. No matter how you focus it, the 780nm beam is too big, that's why DVD drives use a red 650nm laser and why the new Blu-Ray uses a blue 405nm laser for the even finer pitch and pit width. For a full explanation refer to the physics forums on "particles smaller than a wavelength of light." You can use such a beam to detect a particle, but not it's shape - so if the pits are too close together, you can't read them.

        • An Economic Argument

Ok, if you don't believe the physics of it, then can I play toward the economic side? Why do CD/DVD combo drives have 2 seperate diodes, one IR and one red, if one is only needed and you could simply switch between the two by changing the focusing ring? No conspiracy, it's a free market, and someone in some country would certainly have developed a cheaper drive using only one laser diode if this were physically possible!

        • they dont

I've had many dvd-cd combos apart and have never seen more than one! I'm not saying there isn't any like that just saying iv never seen one. this works. I'm not joking i made this video and there's nothing fake about it. honest. I already made my money off the video so why would i lie about it? If you read one of my other messages on here if you go to haklabs.com they have more on this issue I'm sure there's drives out there it wont work on one guys post says there was no adjust screw on his lense Might just be certain drives it works on
