  • Awesome full documentory

If someone actually wants to build a PC for a fair price, this is the option for you.

Good video, I rarely give 5 stars.

  • wire management

Well, that`s all well and good, but why aren`t you considering some wire management ? I mean your airflow is severely flawed by that multitude of wires...
In all a good tutorial, keep `em coming. ;)

    • wires

The power wires are pretty bulky I guess, but there's still about half the area open between the drive bays and the rest of the case. Two 120mm fans are blowing through there, and no wires are obstructing the video card.

The cpu fan goes directly into a duct on the side of the case so that hardly even comes into play.

I agree that the wires don't look pretty, but I think you are overestimating their effect on the airflow. Also, the owner of this pc does not overclock anything, so it's less of a concern.

The thing actually runs quite cool, so, it's fine.

Lucky it started up. I would have used a static guard, I would have also pluggeb the power line in LAST. I have seen some builds that "come alive" on their own...
    REXMO knows

Well the only thing I plugged in after the power line was the keyboard, mouse and monitor. So I can't imagine what the difference would be?

As far as "Lucky it started up", you are way too paranoid about static. We grounded ourself on the case obsessively (that's just not shown in the video because it's cut out). Given that, there was no danger of static.

  • What?!?

Dude, you didn't grease your processor! That thing could fry in there!

Anyone who wants to do a custom build, be sure to apply a layer of thermal grease between your processor and heatsink, or the heat will not disperse properly. A friend of mine had to replace his cooked processor because he missed that step.

  • Don't show people this

It'll only make them think they're smart enough to do it, and cost the RMA process time and money

  • Nice rig

Way more advanced than mine. After watching the video, my motherboard looks a lot more vacant now.

  • Next Time

Next time include a price tag on the items(parts) you bought.

By Crazy Bee 1199762583 Reply Spam Moderate Up Moderate Down
    • I'm

I'm quite sure there won't be a next time, but part of the reason I didn't include prices is because they would be out of date months before I actually put up the video, plus I bought it in Canadian money so depending on exchange rates, etc, it wouldn't really be relevant for a lot of the viewers. The PC without monitor was about $2000.

    • Well,

I'm glad you like it. Metacafe doesn't, as they have just rejected it for producer rewards, despite the fact that it's popular and has a high rating.

    • a while

I've only built a few full systems actually. My current computer was the first one I ever built, and that was almost 5 years ago (yeah, I really need a new computer lol, but at least I have upgraded this one a lot - which is the big advantage of building your own pc when you know what parts to get - you buy the ones that will allow you to do a ton of upgrading in the future).

  • instead of

    building it
ask a nice company to do it with your own composant selection
your only gonna pay 100$ or something like taht !
+ no mistake in the connection within the core

  • Lucky

Good thing he doesn't build mine - no ESD protection seen anywhere.

By Slittzz 1199392996 Reply Spam Moderate Up Moderate Down
    • You don't *see* it, but actually

we were touching the case obsessively probably 10 times more than we needed to, to protect against ESD. I know you can get those bracelet things and what not, but touching the case a lot is good enough in my experience.

  • Excellent video

I have been building computers for many years, and this video will help lots of folks who plan to obtain a new computer. My computers are always "more bang for the buck" because I buy the parts separately and get quality and better prices, and the labor is actually fun!

  • NICE

i like to know how much tha system cost you ?

By aman aman 1199133620 Reply Spam Moderate Up Moderate Down
    • ok

The system was purchased back in spring 2007. I'd have to search around for the invoices and stuff, but to the best of my recollection the system cost about $2000 Canadian without the monitor. It was built for somewhat of a power user, but not a gamer - which is why the video card isn't that great.

  • Why

did you buy a mouse with a wire attched to it? I love my wireless keyboard and mouse.

By oketa 1198997958 Reply Spam Moderate Up Moderate Down
    • Because

In the past, wireless keyboards have been laggy and unreliable - perhaps they are better now, but even if they are, this computer was built on a budget and we had already gone over budget, so we saved a few bucks by getting a cheaper keyboard. Pretty much the same reason for the mouse, the G7 wireless was like $50 more than this G5, so... not really worth it.

      Thanks for watching :)
