This one use a PIC microcontroller, for change visual effects automatically.
You can make a more simple laser show, using: 2 mirrors, 2 old walkman motors, 2 potentiometers (to change motors speed), 1 switch to change one motor direction and 1 ordinary laser pointer.

  But you can obtain more effects like this, by driving a laser pointer in pulse mode (using uController or simple 555 timer).
