I've always noticed, if you are successful in the break, it really doesn't hurt, because all or most of the energy is absorbed by the concrete. It only hurts if you don't break it, and the energy is reflected back into your hand.

as far as being easier than it looks, actually most people are physically capable of doing some pretty amazing breaks. The challenge is the mental aspect- being confident enough in your ability to convince your brain to do something it doesnt believe is possible. And if you dont fully convince yourself, you will hesitate, and you therefore won't break it, and you'll get hurt. Thats the trick.

You are right about this not being fake, but not so much about it being easier than it looks. Look up Discovery Channel's "Extreme Martial Arts" or the United States Breaking Association for more info.

Just need 17 inch biceps to crack a coconut with your bare hand is all.

And if it's all the same, why not break the cinderblocks and not the specially made clay stacks?

Although Drew is in shape, he is only 6' 1". Much of breaking goes beyond strength. As a matter of fact the ISKA World Lightweight Champion Power Breaker Raphael Velez broke more than the heavyweights at last years World competition. He is only about 5' 5" and broke 14.

And those "specifically made clay stacks" are the same cement patio blocks that you can purchase at Home Depot.

I can break a single concrete patio block without much diffictuly, but I can't seem to break 2, even with spacers. More concrete means more energy required to break them, period.

Breaking with spacers is easier than without, but spacers are standard in breaking competition and this was during competition. Also, all materials are inspected during competition. Check out usba.biz.

Im not familiar with this guy. Was this a competition or a demonstration? Either way, I'd hate to be in the clean up crew! BTW, thanks for your support in my other posts. Usually with discussions like these, it's only the people who actually have performed breaks before that seem to know what they're talking about!
