Machu Picchu excerpt from "The Inca Lost and Found", the Intrepid Berkeley Explorer's video of Peru. Never found by the Spanish, Machu Picchu was discovered by accident centuries later. It is the most intact and famous Inca Empire site, whose purpose remains unknown to this day.

  • No restrictions in 2000

My trip to Peru was in 2000. So the kind of restrictions discussed in the comments above could have been imposed during the last six years.

Certainly I was able to wander freely all over Machu Picchu. Nothing was off limits. This is very clear in the full video, "The Inca Lost and Found", which has a longer Machu Picchu segment than the clip.

I thought that they had restricted public access to MP to help preserve it.
Are tourists still allowed to visit and explore there?

Oh, and here's the link I think the poster meant to put up.

    • Mad,

If my memory is correct, yes you can still go to this place. However, it does have restricted access tomany parts of it now, and there is nor more "free roaming" so to speak. I would have to get final confirmation on this from my travel agent, but I think that is how it is now. Also the excursions are fairly pricey as well, but if you ever get the chance then I am sure it would be worth the cost. Some day I hope to go thee in the near future.

you can see difrent stages and thats the inca walls.. it woud take 30000-40000 incas to build it and 30 yers.. thats why eric von daniken was convinced the incas was in touch whit aliens.

    hole in their head!

inca doctor actoly made holes in the head beacuse of that the incas shud not be killed of the pressure when it was too much blood in the head after a hit in war. the inca doctors used cobber knife to make it and the pasients was cooled down whit beer. in the 1300 century the inca doctor was soo good that 9 of 10 survived
