  • There are much easier ways

you go to mobilespin.net and use their free ringtone tool. It generates a .m4r at the end which you can drag/drop in iTunes and sync to iPhone and you're done

For anyone who can't find the ringtones folder.

It doesn't need to ne there, drag the file to the library tag at the to top. iTunes will do the rest.

  • Idiots :)

Yo, for those of you who don't know how to change a file extension

Windows will not allow you to do this, unless you tell it to view file extensions. Otherwise all your doing is changing the files name, not its extension.

In a windows explorer box, hit tools, then older options. From here hit view up the top. Now you have a list of enabled / disabled view options.

Find 'hide extensions for known file types' and make sure its not ticked.

now you will be able to view the file extention as part of the file name, hence you will now be able to change it.

  • PC USERS File extension problem

    Hey guys,

So I was trying to create a ringtone, followed this tutorial and it didn't work because I couldn't change the file extension from m4a to m4r. So after following all the steps to create the new file I thought if I tried e-mailing it to myself I could receive and then "save file as" and change the file format. I right clicked on the file clicked email this file and it opened in outlook. In outlook I double clicked the file attachment that was the ringtone, I saved the file as changing the m4a extension (which now appeared) to m4r and now it works.

    Best of luck.

  • Protected Songs

This worked great for unprotected songs, songs I loaded from personal CDs. Received an error message when trying this process on songs purchased on iTunes, as they are marked Protected AAC file. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Follow the Steps EXACTLY as described

If renaming in explorer doesn't work, it may be necessary to rename the files in a DOS command window.

    • To the rescue!

      xherxhinski,

Usually if you can't copy the ringtone into your ringtones directory the duration of the ringtone was greater than 40 seconds. Also, .m4p files must be converted to something other than .m4p before converting to aac(which turns the files into .m4r. Check those things out and let me know if it still isn't working for you. We'll get it fixed! :) Thanks for your comment, btw!..

Hehe...There are a few steps to it.. I wanted to post it though because mac users get to make them for free... I thought windows users should be able to also. It's saved me a bunch of money so far :) Thanks for your comment :)
