Watch this Boeing 747 on a short field take-off. It's incredible... I wouldn't mind being on it, on the way somewhere far from work.
This was the first 747 passenger flight from Bournemouth Airport, UK. The destination was New York and the flight was operated by the airline European. Bournemouth has a short runway so this was an dramatic take off for the 747

By 45under 1156742585 Reply Spam [+2] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIts runway is shorter? What´s wrong with it?
By bremex 1156771431 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI’m nt shore how long that runway is (dass anyone know?), bt Wellington’s is bout 2kms and at both ends is sea…. Take a look on world wind or goggle earth (174 deg and 52min east, and 41 deg and 20 min south) that’s short with me my home town’s is bout 3.5km (Christchurch, nz). The thing with Wellington is its nt uncommon to have to land with storage - gail force cross winds. Houses are so close, and in some places higher than the airport so as you land u can really see in2 ppls homes. But as I said it is the cross winds that really make it scary if you know bout weather and geo you can see from looking were it is why the winds are so bad. I’ve seen plane landing rocking from side to side so much that the wings almost land before the wheals!!! And landing almost side on to the runway… (ok well it is more like 45 deg to the runway). I will try to find some of the TV news footage of planes trying to land in da winds (if u want a look for you self our tv news stations are tvnz, tvone news and Canwest TVWorks, tv3 news…. Captains have said it is one of the hardest airports to land on….and there had been ppl wanting it to stop been used as international airport ......
By 45under 1156846646 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removestate why. For those that don't live around that area, we can only guess to the reason.
By Keen Eye 1179531715 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Remove...is Skopje airport in Macedonia, and Irkutsk airport in Russia. In Skopje, the planes landing are passing 40 m above a highway, 40 m above a village called Petrovec, and 20 m above that village's graveyard. Still, I don't think it's a problem, cause the biggest bird SKP airport has ever seen is the Boeing 737...
Now the Irkutsk airport is in the middle of the city, and it's build above the unmarked graveyard of Stalin's repressions' victims. There were several big crashes when the planes got out of the runway and crashed into garages near the airport. Someone explain that these tragedies due to the airfield's bad karma because of the spirits of the people that are burried there...
This takeoff isn't that spectacular. 747 captains often calculate to use the whole runway for their takeoff run, especially if they're flying a loong leg. This way they'll save fuel and won't max out engines (engines wear out earlier if maxed out all the time). I've seen 747 use all of a 11000ft runway due to this. The airliners save a lot of cash doing this.

Just another take off, his gear was up as soon as positive rate was established.. Did'nt look like a v-nap so as someone said above it is a fuel savings departure.
My 2 cents
It's impressive that it was able to take off, but don't you think that landing and stopping that behemoth would be a bit more hair-raizing?

As far as I'm concerned arrogant comments like yours deserve all the negative responses they get. There's no need to get so excited about other people's simple mistakes - see my reply to the guy who wrote the "Camera effects!!" comment below.
Ok yeah you're right there's no reason to get upset over people's simple mistakes which is why I was upset with the person who corrected me. He/She pointed out a simple error in my sentence and used it to attack me. But I probably deserved it since I used the term "morons." What I was trying to convey is that too many people post on things they aren't familiar and since I'm in aviation I feel particularly offended when people say dumb things about it. I'm sorry if I come off as arrogant, which is not my intention, I just don't want uninformed people spreading incorrect information about aviation.
By Hagen115 1147886042 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe Antonov 225 "condor" is the largest plane in operation but the Spruce Goose built by Mr. Howard Hughes was the largest plane that ever flown. And as an additional note, there are only 1 of each of these that has ever been built. The Russians built the Condor in Ukraine for the purpose of piggy backing their Burlan Space Shuttle.

By la-z boy 1144551067 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveMost people relate to this kind of plane as the 747, thats smaller and used a lot in commercial flying.
The 707 istnt actually the biggest, the biggest is the Antanov An - 225 its wingspan is 88.4m (290 ft) which is closely followed by the Airbus A380 with a wing span of 79.8m (261 ft - 10")
I hope i helped :)
No, it's a 747, all right. The 707 is a single-deck commercial (also served as the basis for the RC-135 and E-3 military planes). The one you saw taking off has a partial upper deck.

By kingtut 1144674891 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewhat's amazing is that the plane is going well over 100mph as it takes off, but because it's so big, it looks like it's taking off very slowly.
By dyhgfdh 1144539405 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removebut try going over 200 mph by the time it go's by over head. Most of the time we take off at bout 180mph or faster depending on the load. I have done an easy 180 knots which is over 200mph on rotation ( when I lift the nose of the run way).

With all the interest in video, you would thing just a few of you would be educated in lens’s, field of view and perspective. There is nothing special in this video !! its just a 747 taking off on from a typical commercial runway.
Can you say camera effects !! The photographer used a very long lens (telephoto) this lens compressed the field of view and made everything look close together or short !!!!!
This is first year science or junior high photography stuff. WOW I can not believe how uneducated / illiterate people are
If it's an optical illusion just say so, rather than calling people ill-informed, stupid, uneducated and illiterate.
You sound like an arrogant ass.
Actually, there is something special about it. It's a 747 on a shorter runway than is usually used for a 747 takeoff, so he doesn't take off until the very end. I admit that it may not seem special to anyone that doesn't know about or isnt interested in things like that but to someone who is, (as someone further down has said) this is the first time a commercial plane this large has taken off from this particular (short) runway, making it quite special - it's not just a camera effect, i'm fairly certain he does take off that near the end!

By jbrooks544 1144866666 Reply Spam [-2] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThis clip made me think about the pentagon, the plane that supposedly hit the pentagon was a 757. It is just as big or bigger than this 747, why are there not any news reports of people saying they heard this extremely loud noise like these people filming this 747. Plus, at the pentagon the plane would have been flying even lower. Almost close enough to tip cars over from the jet wash.
By 3eo51 1144709016 Reply Spam [-2] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeinform yourself before posting BS
a 757 is MUCH smaller than a 747. its:
A380
747
MD11
DC10
777
couple of airbuses
767
and then finally the 757 (ordered in size from greatest down)
look the 747 is the largest comercial plane boing have, it doesnt mean that its larger begause it has a greater number. look at the 777, its way smaller than the 747
By crazyboutford 1154120907 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethe 747 is the biggest passenger plane in the world at the mo until the A380 becomes commercial. jet wash will not tip over a car unless the car is behind a stationary jet engine. A b757 will carry approx 240 pasengers in eco class. all eco class 747s will carry over 600 passengers, although none are configured that way. The A380 will carry 555 passengers but if configured in eco class could carry 800 passengers, although the launch airlines dont envisage this. My point is that when people like me work in this industry we like our facts to be broadcast correctly, we would not dare to estimate how many people die in road accidents because of the size of the car they were in, but when it happens on a massive scale everybody needs to know! At least let them know the facts not hearsay or speculation, let them know what you know and nothing else. Dont pretend to know, it getsyou into trouble as the comments have shown. Lastly but not least, the people who lost loved ones on 9/11 need to know the facts and not be influenced by idle speculation. ENOUGH SAID.

was Howard Hughes's the " Hercules"
Wingspan: 320 feet
Length: 219 feet
Wing Area: 11,430 square feet
the Hercules wingspan is still 30' foot bigger than the An-225 Mriya-the 2nd largest airplane ever built.
The wing area of the "Hercules" of 11,430 square feet and wingspan remains unchallenged as the greatest of any airplane ever built. It is still the largest flying boat in the world.
