  It's really great to know that people actually build this stuff!!! It feels really nice somehow! Thanks for commenting back. Did you notice that the reed switch holds the magnet in place a bit, so if you have a round magnet, you can use it as a perfect motion alarm because the magnet is held to the switch a bit by magnetism which makes it possible to place anywhere without the magnet rolling off immedeately?

- There is no IC

  It's just a reed switch, which are 2 pieces of metal which are attracted to each other by the magnetic field of the magnet and thereby closing the contact if that's what you mean. The rest is standard stuff you can get at any electronics store. Check out reed switch on wikipedia and you'll find all the info you need.
