My mother has a Lincoln Towncar and the icon show it on right, but the tank is on the drivers side! Explain that to me.

on 3 of 4 cars in my driveway a 2005 colorado, a 2006 kia spectra 5, and a 1996 cougar thecougar has cap on opposite side of the others the handle on icon all on same side but there is a triangle on all three pointing to the side the cap is on.
On an 86 mazda rx7 there is no triangle but the handle does point to the side the cap is on...but it is on the same side of the icon as the rest of the cars listed.

it is the opposite side from the exhaust pipe.

Most folks are aware that the gas filler tube is on the driver side of the car for the country that they are primarily built and marketed for. The exceptions are multiple market target countries where the filler seems to be out of place in its' home country. With the variety of cars, the U.S. seems to be more confusing to many.

Nope, it does not represent all cars. Check out some asian cars as well. Try also checking gasoline gauge pointer, maybe it will do the trick.

It works on properly designed cars, that was a well known thing for many years but has since dropped from public knowledge in the last few decades.

Which way are you facing the car.Is it looking at the front or back? If it's from sitting in the drivers seat it's wrong for a Dodge Caravan.
