that's an airport
By hoosteady 1145392999 Reply Spam [+9] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removesee how politely the airplanes wait in line to take-off? They are not pushing or shoving...they just wait patiently...
By DragonRider5077 1148585923 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI operate the B744 for a major Far Eastern airline, and this looks most like it could be one of a number of airports to me.
I have only been to Edinburgh Turnhouse Airport as a passenger, and I have neevr been to Glasgow airport.
But the RBS logo on the airbridge is misleading. It is definitely the Royal Bank of Scotland, not just because of the "RBS", but because of the logo next to it. But the Royal Bank of Scotland is an international business, but its RBS brand is hardly global. I could see RBS advertising under this logo in Europe, but hardly elsewhere.
The legend "B28" on the concrete parapet would indicate that the gate from which the Lufthansa B744 pushes back is gate 28 in Terminal B.
The presence of Lufthansa is not necessarily suggestive of this being a German airport, especially as I see Garuda, Singapore and United Airlines B744's there as well.
Could be Heathrow, but I am trying to figure out why Lufthansa would operate a B744 (an ultra-long range aircraft) to London - only an hour's flight away from Frankfurt?
Furthermore, Heathrow's terminals are numbered (1,2,3,4.etc), rather than lettered (A,B,C,D, etc), but the gates curiously ARE designated by letters AND numbers...so this could be Heathrow, but I just can't remember where the 'B' gates at Heathrow are, as I sit here and type. I have a nasty feeling that the 'B' gates do not accommodate B744's though...
At Frankfurt, the airline for whom I work parks at gates E and F. Interestingly, they do have 'angle-in' gates there, but not at gates E and F. The aircraft park obliquely at the end gates further down the apron from us, at terminals which could well host gates 'B '.
But United Airliens operates B767's and B777's to Frankfurt, and I have not yet seen a United B744 at Frankfurt.
At LAX, the international terminal is the 'Bradley Terminal', which begins with a 'B' you'll notice. But the gates are all numbered over 100, so it should not be LAX!
For my money, this is Frankfurt or Heathrow, but for all that I have operated in and out of both airports for many years, I still can't be sure.
A 'Dark Horse' is Zurich, but if United doesn't operate B744's to Frankfurt, they would be even less likely to do so to Zurich...hell, I don't even know if United serves Zurich at all!
I'll stick with Frankfurt or Heathrow.
it is Heathrow (London), and Lufthansa stop off there on the trans atlantic flights.
Any reason why you had to write a book to tell us nothing?
I'm more inclined to think it's FRA now, rather than LHR.
And if you were bored by what I wrote, why did you bother reading it?
I think it's heathrow...the weathers sh**e so it must be somewhere in Britain, and RBS is on the entrance to most british airports...they have a field of pretty blue lights just outside the entrance to heathrow. Although that said, RBS is also the sponsor of six nations ugby so depending on when this clip is it could be anwhere in britain/ireland /france/italy. It too big to be edinburgh.
By Cassie111 1147129528 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIts a 747 not a 744. It's not Glasgow airport and it's definately not Edinburgh (I live in Edinburgh).
By AlexFord 1146187137 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveA 744 is a 747-400. Try looking it up before you argue it as fact...
By PtarThanes 1148761772 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removehe probably flies a boeing 747-400, thus getting the shortened name "744"
By carlyroxmysox 1146952560 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Remove"I'ts a 747 not a 744. It's not Glasgow airport and it's definately not Edinburgh (I live in Edinburgh)."
Sorry I just posted this without finding out why you called it a 744. My mistake.
I got your comments as an e-mail, and have replied, via e-mail.
I hadn't seen your posting above when I wrote to you, and became a little frustrated, as I had already explained this matter once!
So, the tone of my e-mail is a little brusque, especially since I had you confused with someone else...so, my apologies for that! Trust that I did not offend excessively...
United being Star alliance does operate a 744 service from LAX. Upon closer inspection there are not one but at least 3 Lufthansa 744's on the loop making this Frankfurt Main beyond any reasonable doubt.
By octubre29 1145657289 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveDon't you mean B747? If you fly them then aren't you at least supposed to know the model?! (I.e. Boeing 747-200a)
By CrkOfDawn 1145704424 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIn his comment below, Brightboy is correct CrkOfDawn, although your comment was passed on to me as an e-mail, and I have replied to it already.
"744" is indeed industry shorhand for the Boeing 747-400 model, although Boeing employs their own in-house designations for each customer, so that each airline purchasing a slightly different specification of the 744 can thus be referred to by the in-house designation.
For example, British Airways is designated by Boeing as Customer No 36, so the BA version of the Boeing 747-400 is referred to by Boeing as a B747-436.
To take the example one step further, the Boeing 777-300's purchased by BA are referred to by Boeing as 777-336's....see where I am going with this? :-)
Anyway, not to worry. At least you read the post thoroughly, and didn't just gloss over it!
Before you criticize someone, try knowing what you're talking about. There's this wonderful little thing called the internet where you can find these things out. And, contrary to popular belief, the internet isn't just a place to find videos of car crashes and big breasts.
The B747-400, an intercontinental plane, is often called a 744. Much easier and quicker to say. A pilot of one would definitely call it that, especially over the radio and when talking with those who actually know something about the subject.
Not 100 percent here as to who actually changed it but I believe the FAA did. We use the acft model/series on the radar tags. There's a bit of performance difference between say a B732 and a B738. Some acft are "heavy" in one series and not in another, like a B752

By bremex 1155335981 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewhaaaa!!! i m australian and damnn i have never heard of a airport with this name orbost ehh... hmmm and if it were oz dont you think you would be seeing at least one australian airline (qantas) .... i think too it is germany
By sunshine1972 1145805794 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThere is town called ORBOST in Australia but it's in country Victoria and the "town" itself only has a population of between 2,000 & 2,500 people so I can't see such a busy airport in in small rural town of that size.
I'm with sunshine1972 - it's either Germany or Austria. Just before the plane closest to screen backs out - you can see the name of the airline LUFTHANSA
This is Flughafen Frankfurt-Main airport.
By bremex 1155335427 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Remove747 Aircraft travel all around the world. Lufthansa is German but what does that have to do with the Airport?
By AlexFord 1146186941 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewas simply stating it's not "Orbost - Australia". Anything else, I'm just guessing like everyone else.
By Aussie_Vixen 1146393711 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIm 100% sure that this is the Frankfurt airport in Germany....ive been there so many times
By aryamafi 1145403838 Reply Spam [+2] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIt truely is Frankfurt am Main in Germany! I know it for sure because i am working there day by day!
By ThoRN 1145481217 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Remove... it's Frankfurt. I recognised it immediately, before I saw your answer.
By bossmanwillie 1145407815 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThis is Frankfurt - am - Main in Germany.
Second biggest terminal of Europe in terms of turnover, Heathrow is the first in London.
I believe from the view of size De Gaulle in Paris is ahead of it.
Firstly, im scottish, i've flown from there countless times.
and secondly, why else would there be a huge "Royal bank of scotland*" logo?
* the "RBS" on the extendable arm
The same reason why a Corona beer commercial would be in a Japan stadium. There is no reason why Lufthansa would use a 747 to go to Scotland. This is Frankfurt Main and RBS struck a sweet deal
By octubre29 1145467283 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei, too, have flown many times from Edinburgh - it's my local airport. I've never seen a Lufthansa 747 there, though, nor a whole line of jumbos coming and going. It's Frankfurt, 100% certain. First time I landed there, I was amazed to see all the RBS adverts. Good to know a Scottish bank is a major international business!

By jack1717 1149342511 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethe Logo on the passenger tunnel is RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland) so i was thinking that maybe its one of the bigger Scotish airports
By mark2cookie 1149075337 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWatching the video carefully, one can see folks are observing from the balcony overlooking busy area of airport traffic with no direct barrier (glass or otherwise). I have been to many airports in the states and none of them has this lay out. it would be actually cool to get that close and watch. Far less boring than sitting inside and listening to annoying anouncments :)
By eirvbi 1148992564 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeyeh that airport is heatrow airport i think a plain take off every 90 seconds that is just a stab in the dark not a fact but it is amazing to see the clip goin so quick

By dramen 1146489607 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethis is definitely not Heathrow. i would know, i work there. and the reason the jumbo is referred to as a 744 is because it is a 747-400, which is then shortened to 744

By fastnfurious 1145401411 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeobviously the RBS doesn't mean Scotland. RBS has become an international company that advertizes all over the world. The terminal shape won't tell you which airport it is because that 'U' shape is a very common one in many airports. The two main pieces that I would look at would be the age and color of the boarding ramp things as well as the capacity of a single terminal to load/unload more than seven 747s in the short period shown in the clip.
