    lets put this in order 1st the girl was wrong for being disrespectful to a customer. 2nd the manager was wrong for not taking charge of the problem and allowing a customer to assualt his employee.3rd the officer should have called for assitance when he thought he was a victum of a crime because now he has a biased oppion of the events he should have been charged with aggravated asault the city of dayton should be a shamed of there D.A. for not filing charges against that policeman and are very very lucky that it only cost them 60000 dollars and the store is lucky they did not get sued also . that manager would be long gone if he worked for me

Now the dude was wrong and should have lost his job, or given a really bad beat job, but its called respect. The man with the gun, and the hand cuffs ask you a question you don't call him a mother F**ker , and say you don't give a F**k if he's the police.

    I've been pulled over many times, some I was in the wrong and some not, but I never raised my voice, or refused to sign the ticket.... ..... its called common since.

      Someone objective with common sense. I hope everyone reads your note and gets schooled from it. You don't scream and swear at a police officer, or anyone else in public for that matter. Families with children having lunch don't need to be subjected to someone screaming and swearing. It's called "Disturbing the Peace" or "Being a Public Nuisence" and is in itself a cause to be arrested. What you do is: act calm, mature and follow the police officers instructions and if necessary you then call a lawyer to plead your case for you. A lawyer can tell your side of the story much better, especially if you're someone who can't control your mouth or emotions. This could have ended much differently and the girl wouldn't have gotten sprayed if she acted calmly. The situation over the money became secondary to the way she was behaving. It doesn't even matter if she was right, you can't behave like that in public! It's against the law. And only a fool would disobey a police officer and call him a motherfucker. That's asking to be arrested. Use your brain and you win, use a foul mouth and you lose....every time!

      U may have a point but only to the effect that it makes sense not to argue with the man with a gun (and handcuff). This only goes to say that cops, unfortunately, are as easilly able to lose their proper sense of reason as the next man with a gun. This shouldn't be so as they have a huge responsibility not only bcos they are armed but bcos they are supposed to be custodians of justice and therefore as impartial as possible. If this was a case involving 2 civilians, and the cop was called in, I doubt, very much, that he would have taken the same actions, it's obvious he was very biased bcos he was directly involved. This is highly irresponsible. And if u study the girl's behaviour closely, u'll realise that she was actually quite scared and I realised that even b4 she indicated that she was a minor. Her whole, "I don't give a f**k" attitude was her own defence mechanism influenced by society. The cop should have been way lot more matured in handling the situation and, even if eventually proved wrong, wouldn't have gotten in any trouble at all. Personally, when I saw that video, I simply wanted to break the bitch motherfucking cops neck and smash his face in right after for good measure. That was overkill right from the textbook. (what he did, I mean. Not what I felt like doing to him. lol!)

      I was enraged. The police officer should have exercised more restraint. After all. he's about twice her size, with a gun and back up if necessary. No need whatsoever to pepperspray and rough her up.. Overkill. I totally agree with Freebird in that she overreacted verbally in order to deal with her fear. That's natural from any teen who's being confronted or threatened. She KNEW he wasn't going to leave. For phuck sake, she was saying that her mum was coming. She wasn't threatening to kill him or phone someone to sort him out. She just knew that he had all the power, and once in the police car, he'd have even more. If you have someone who has a MOTIVE and intent for ill, then no matter how much you abide by what they want by bowing down and dragging your belly and dignity on the ground, it'll make no difference whatsoever. Now I'm not saying don't obey the law in a calm manner, but you instinctively know when someone's phucking you over. I didn't see anything wrong with that girl's behaviour - If I was that officer, at the most I would have taken her personal details from the manager and asked to see the video footage. Police know that all retail outlets have video recording systems. These things don't lie. She should have received a higher compensation.

    Even If the COP was right about the money I think it would have been ethical to call in another officer to take a police report because if the first officer was directly involved in the situation then it is obviously biased.     He's just your typical asshole cop. My mom used to work in a pizza joint and this cop was there. A kid only had two aspiran and the cop beat the boy right there in the restraurant. My mom tried everything to search for the parents to take up for him. She quit her job over this. She told the cop off. They do this to get a great title for themselves. This also happened to my brother when stopped in a small town like dayton, OH. They handcuffed him at his car and beat him. Another time, this happened to a neighbor, etc. White or Black...if it's a bad cop, they will beat the hell of of you!

    Shouldnt the police work for the state, not the city? So it depends on whos compensating her the 60k. Just a reply to one of the other comments.
    Also, she did resist arrest, so the pepper spray was justified. However the grounds for arrest, honestly, shaky at best.
