a quick search on google will tell you more.
basically it is unstable about one axis, so when spun in that direction it will become unstable, wobble and spin in the opposite direction.

they are great fun though

there is a similar effect that happens when you glue the spoon bit of a spoon onto a ruler at a slight angle.
it spins one way but not the other.
sorry though, dont know how its done, is it anything to do with light or whether you are north or south of equator, just guessing here

I think they are magnets. When the positive nears the negative they attrack, when the positive nears the positive they repel. You have to get them rotating first. The earth's magnetism takes over.
