    i read somewhere that the stage where the audience was sitting slowly rotated and so when the curtain was dropped they saw nothing. then they just rotated the stage back so that the statue was back in view. not sure if that's really how it was done or any of the answers to some of the obvious questions that that explanation brings up, but that's just what I read online somewhere.

      a black curtain is all it is. You can seethe searchlight stop hitting the other curtain as soon as it's lowered and then they're dimmed when he opens it again because they're behind the black curtain now.

      If it was done by rotating the stage in order to make them think they were looking at empty space, then the ilussion just got even cooler, as it would have required him making either Jersey, Long Island, Staten Island or f'ing Manhattan disappear!

    my uncle pays lots of money for these tricks so i know how most of david copperfield's tricks are done, the 2 statues in the middle put a white curtain over the statue, at the same time, a black curtain the same color as the night sky is placed behind that, then the helicopter flys infront of it, its all point of view with david

  • I found a clue...

    after he says "Theres that jacket again" at about 1:48 he points at the monitor and then narrates " Right about now im thinking. i hope this works." If you look at the bottom left corner of that Green monitor, that nobody knows what it is, You can see the Light from something move to the Bottom left of the other side of the monitor slow and carefully, Even in the movement of the Spinning Platform. Then he looks at the monitor again (at about 2:00 and sees the light position, then waits a little, then goes for the curtain, now once again this is a clue that proved that it WAS a platform to me.

  • The Trick

    Platform audience is on rotates a bit to right or left. There is the arch colum that has the curtains atached to it. When the audience is rotated, the line of view to the statue is blocked by the arch. Simpler example, if you are far away enough from say, a mountain and you hold your hand up in front of your eye, you block the mountain from sight. ILLUSION!

  • How Simple

    This is how it works.

    The audience can see the statue of liberty through the pilars.

    The curtain the comes up to block the audience. The live audience is on a secret swiveling platform that rotated slowly to the side of the statue. The statue of liberty lights are turned off, blip on the radar is a part of a video animation.

    The curtain is lowered, the audience and the viewers watching on TV see that the statue has disapeared but all they looking at is a duplicate set of lights that is situated right next to the real statue of liberty. The light of the two towers are there to night blind the audience for a few minutes to make hard to see the statue of liberty.

    The curtain is then raised up the audience is rotated again to face the real statue of liberty the curtain drops again and there she is.

    How simple is that :) :D

      That he would just let a huge black curtain on the statue of ligerty.... but the things is: It would still be visible... because the light breakes when it reaches the curtain... I think that the stage WAS rotated.... but I still wonder... the curtain wasn't up for so long.. if the stage would have to rotate that fast, the people would start falling OFF!...

      I have a question: Why at night? And Why put that stupid radar, when EVERYONE knows its just a fake piece of crap?! He actually made me think it was fake, because the radar was fake... "if he was

      I can't be sure if it is magic, or if it is a trick, but there
      is ONE true fact:
      Criss Angel is a better magician than him! At least Criss Angel does it in a way, that he TELLS you it is a trick, and not magic, but (of course) he doesnt tell you the trick. This asshole is doing all these stupid poses and making stupid faces, as if he would really be doing magic! AND HE DOES NOTHING! David Copperfield is just a guy being filmed, while he is acting and jumping around; meanwhile, all these (background workers) people are sweating blood just to make him have his success!

      1st: if the stage DID rotate, then it was a designer's idea to make a stage that could turn! D.Copperfield wouldn't build up one himself! So it wasn't HIM who was working on making the engine, building up the stage, and getting all the resources / metarials! And NOT only the stage, but also the lighting: I don't believe it was all set up by him, NOR that it was him who directed all the people who were working there!

      2nd: The second thing that tells me 'This is a fake!' is: He did this trick at night. Why? I think it would have been a better business if he would do it in the morning; More people would have time to go there, to watch the show! But "Noooo! "Then the people would see the sky turning around them!" or "No, because then the black curtain would be visible, and I can't put a blue/white curtain on! That would be seen too!"

      3rd thing: The way he does his "stuff" are too obvious not to be real!
      For example: Once he took a girl on stage, and asked her to write her number down on a piece of paper, while he was turned away, busy doing some stuff. Then he turned back to the girl to take her paper (that was folded 3x) and after that, he burned it... Oh, of course he didnt know the girl... he even asked her: "Did we meet before?" And she said: "No!"..... You know what I say to that? BULLSHIT! Of course when he took her on the stage, the show was not on yet, he had plenty of time to ask her for her phone number!!
      He basically SUCKS!

    Okay, we hire 200 white people to come watch this illusion - they are the most gullible. Then, 2 columns are placed in front of the audience. We then hire 30 Mexicans @ 20cents a piece. When the curtain is raised they push the statue of liberty off it's pedestal and into the water. That's why when the curtain drops, it doesn't drop all the way down.
    Then when the curtain goes back up, we have 30 Cubans that we hired to swim in the water and push the statue back up onto her pedestal. It's all basic math and physics really!

      only us "professionals" no how to do it. dave had a shrinking machine and shrunk the statue small enough to where you couldn't see it. then he lowered the curtain, showed it wasn't there, lifted the curtain, took out his growing machine, blew the statue back up to normal size, and there you have it...shut the fuck up dude, like you really know how it was done.

    all you dumb idiots out there, he did not take the statue away, how can he take
    something that weighs a few hundred tons, it is just the way he use the certain
    curtain and masking the statue out and use some hologram to do any illusion
    he wants, he is just faking it; have you noticing he did not ask anyone to go
    behind that curtain to check if the status is there. the statue si always there
    unless it is physically break down the foundation and haul away by a crane.
