When I was younger a couple of friends n I tried this, we blew up a bunch of bottles, but 1 didn't explode, ends up this guy walks by and my friend is like hey man 5 bucks to touch that bottle. The poor guy tries to pick up the bottle and it blows up in his hand. He got chunks of dry ice embedded in his arm and face, very painful for a few minutes. Ended up going to the hospital.

just fookin do it, worry about the consequences when they happen, cos they hardly ever do!!........... and if your that worried just dont look directly at the bottle when you pick it up............ this video is great........ and try it everyone its fun!!!!

...mix together crystal drano and little balls of tinfoil...put them in a plastic bottle (any size will do) then add liquid drano, put the cap on and toss it away quickly...it makes a nice loud boom, and a mushroom could of deadly smoke (if inhaled directly), but be careful, the liquid it makes is extremely corrosive, and will eat your skin like crazy. If you think i am just trying to get someone to mix the two and blow their faces off, go ahead and do some research on it. and here comes a warning so i cant get in shit...

Protective googles and PVC masks are cheap and easyer to get than Dry ice!

i was doin that one day and me and my friends were holdin there till they would explode, they dont realy hurt very much at all like a little sting, the smoke from the dry ice hurts if u get it in ur eyies. but it goes away after like a min... i would say let ur kids do it have some fun, but hey there ur kids im not gonna tell ya how to rais them =)

There isn't a chemical reaction, just a change of state from solid to gas CO2.

They help when your not searching the net, but rather getting hit by the cap or something like almost happened in a few of these videos.

The only unsafe part about this is really picking up the bottle and throwing it.... what about finding a high place to set the bottle, tying a string around it or some mechanism so that it falls down, and THEN adding the dry ice?

There is no dry ice here. That will not explode. And that's not sodium, potassium, lithium, etc (1A group elements). Cause they explode very very strong than this one.
That white crystallic substance in video is calcium carbide. Calcium carbide produces acetylene gas which causes high pressure and is explosive. Also the liquid after reaction is a very strong base. Here is the chemical reaction:
CaC2 [calcium carbide] H2O --->
---> C2H2 [explosive gas] Ca(OH)2 [liq base]
Note: Some fishers throw a "bomb" [wrapped calcium carbide into water filled glass bottle] into river, lake, etc. and collect fishes wounded by pieces of glass or shocked by high pressure. This is illegal.

That is not calcium carbide. It is dry ice. Calcium carbide WOULD of course make that reaction that you're talking about, but the explosion would have been a lot more dramatic than this one. This is dry ice, subliming off in the water to make co2 gas under pressure.

Hey dude go back to your crack pipe. dry ice will cause pressure to build up in the bottle which has no where to go " suprise " the bottle goes boom.

IF you notice theyre using plastic to put the dry ice into the bottles i used to do this alot when i was younger it led to other things including pipe bombs and eventually making nitro which led to a crude plastic explosive we called play doh then those led to matchbox claymores set off by a rocket igniter and an m80 watch out if you have kids its all fun and games with dry ice but it will eventually go further and anything much further than this could kill you making the nitro when my friends parents went camping could have blown half of the house apart but if you dont have access to dry ice aluminum foil and the works do the same thing but instead of co2 it creates chlorine gas so dont go near the smoke it creates although foil and the works makes a much more impressive boom a god sakes dont pick it up and throw it the reaction from the works its 20x faster than dry ice so put foil in crush the bottle put in the works cap it and throw it fast and do not go near it, it will either explode or burn a hole through the plastic

but not to the point where i think i can recognize any substance from a brief look at it. i looked at the equation and it made sense until you forgot one thing. the rest of the pepsi in the bottle. i think it is dry ice and if you look closely, you can see that they're using plastic to hold the dry ice. i think what is happening here is roughly the same process as putting a glass of water in the freezer. you put a good amount of dry ice in the bottle and it begins to evaporate and expand quickly, putting a lot of pressure on the bottle. then the impact with the ground causes the plastic bottle to break and explode from all the pressure. just like a water baloon.

It works alot better if you put the dry ice in an empty bottle, and then put really hot water in there, only takes it about 30sec-1minute to explode and you dont have to throw it or anything.

is it safer than using fizzy drinks or not, either way this sounds cool!
