Ok I remember I was a kid once and probably would have dreamt to make such experiments, so I guess that many of you can't wait to try it too. But I'm a father now, and if my kids wanted to try that, I wouldn't want to have to carry them to the hospital with a severed finger or a blind eye.

- Friend of mine had to go to the ER
When I was younger a couple of friends n I tried this, we blew up a bunch of bottles, but 1 didn't explode, ends up this guy walks by and my friend is like hey man 5 bucks to touch that bottle. The poor guy tries to pick up the bottle and it blows up in his hand. He got chunks of dry ice embedded in his arm and face, very painful for a few minutes. Ended up going to the hospital.

...mix together crystal drano and little balls of tinfoil...put them in a plastic bottle (any size will do) then add liquid drano, put the cap on and toss it away quickly...it makes a nice loud boom, and a mushroom could of deadly smoke (if inhaled directly), but be careful, the liquid it makes is extremely corrosive, and will eat your skin like crazy. That white crystallic substance in video is calcium carbide. Calcium carbide produces acetylene gas which causes high pressure and is explosive. Also the liquid after reaction is a very strong base. Here is the chemical reaction:

IF you notice theyre using plastic to put the dry ice into the bottles i used to do this alot when i was younger it led to other things including pipe bombs and eventually making nitro which led to a crude plastic explosive we called play doh then those led to matchbox claymores set off by a rocket igniter and an m80 watch out if you have kids its all fun and games with dry ice but it will eventually go further and anything much further than this could kill you making the nitro when my friends parents went camping could have blown half of the house apart but if you dont have access to dry ice aluminum foil and the works do the same thing but instead of co2 it creates chlorine gas so dont go near the smoke it creates although foil and the works makes a much more impressive boom a god sakes dont pick it up and throw it the reaction from the works its 20x faster than dry ice so put foil in crush the bottle put in the works cap it and throw it fast and do not go near it, it will either explode or burn a hole through the plastic

but not to the point where i think i can recognize any substance from a brief look at it. i looked at the equation and it made sense until you forgot one thing. the rest of the pepsi in the bottle. i think it is dry ice and if you look closely, you can see that they're using plastic to hold the dry ice. i think what is happening here is roughly the same process as putting a glass of water in the freezer. you put a good amount of dry ice in the bottle and it begins to evaporate and expand quickly, putting a lot of pressure on the bottle. then the impact with the ground causes the plastic bottle to break and explode from all the pressure. just like a water baloon.

You can buy it at any grocery store. thow when I was younger you didnt have to be 18 to buy it(sorry teeny boppers). anyway my pothead friend and I had all kinds of fun with this stuff in high school. 1 pound of ice is plenty enough to make up to 40 bombs. but be aware, use very thick gloves when handling the ice itself it can give you serious burns that without the stuff even exploding which btw is a concussion blast when these go off. My buddies found 20 ounce bottles work the best. put some ice in it then add a little water this is when the stuff becomes dangeous,put the cap back on, tight, then set it down and wait. Or if your not a pussy, or just stoned like my buddies and I were. shake the hell out of it and throw it. have fun kids...lol Seriously an note THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS my buddy had one blow before he threw it WOW we were scared the shit out of us we thought he lost his hand.He didnt, but because my friend didnt lose his hand dont think you wont too....and one more thing ITS FAKE hehe

dude sodium metal and dry ice are two completely different things, dry ice is just frozen CO2 (carbon dioxide) sodium metal is just the pure element sodium. Big difference when you put then in water, dry ice bubbles, but sodium will actually Catch Fire, in the water. Amazing and strange, Do your neihborhood a favor and throw a rock of it in your nieghbors pool. Dont touch it with your fingers though, the moisture can cause it to explode or burst into flames, it is really nasty stuff.

Seriously, dry ice bombs are dangerous, and its warm water and dry ice, not calcium carbonate or Cola. Some of you people are really over reacting though.
Setting off these dry ice bombs is actually part of our high school's science curriculum here in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. We spend a chemistry class out on the soccer field launching about thirty of them. As such, at least here they are not illegal.
You also don't have to touch the dry ice with your hands.

I have done this many times, when these blow up they shoot the top end of the bottle fast enough and with enough force to kill someone! Dry ice does burn your finger but no immediatly. It takes about 10 secs or less to burn. The ice sublimes and the gas causes preassure to build and build until it finally bursts.
If you don't want glass to splater on your face, just use a plastic bottle. Problem solved.

There is no dry ice here.
That white crystallic substance in video is calcium carbide. Calcium carbide produces acetylene gas which causes high pressure and is explosive. Also the liquid after reaction is a very strong base. Here is the chemical reaction:

try this out. very easy and no need to throw it. 20oz bottle works the best. fill the 20oz bottle about 1/3 of the way full with muriatic acid (normal pool acid). roll 5 or 6 things of aluminum foil, about 4inches long and skinny enough to fit in the bottle. stick all the alluminum into the bottle at the same time and stick the cap on it tight and wait about 30sec-1min. Easy stuff

u can get dry ice at most grocery stores, and also the way u make dry ice (can't be done with household objects) but u take co2 and put it to extreme pressure which causes the atoms to compress and thus lowering its movement capabilities which lowers its temp however dry ice is around -273 degrees celcius if i remember correctly, so you'd need alot of pressure

the muriatic (hydrochloric) acid is $3 a gallon at walmart and the foil is cheap, too. The danger is the fumes from the explosion.
