I´m serving in the german army and i have to say this MG is the best i´ve ever shot ! It really could shoot 1200 ROUNDS PER MINUTE !!!! And all new MG are copies from the MG42 wich could be invented in the 1980´s . And to the morons who are offensive against Norway, Sweden and Germany: What is your F**king problem ???? Get alive !!! The WW is 60 Years over...

    • Obey?

The army is so cheap that they are using German machine guns from the 40s!

    • Not the same

You don't know the history of the weapon. It LOOKS like the MG42 but is a revised, redesigned version. The weapon is now called the MG3. And you should look at the history of it. It was very tough and reliable and cost-effective. That's why a reworked version of it is in use today by dozens of countries around the world. And the M60? It was nicknamed the Pig by US troops because it was so heavy and plagued with problems and flaws in its design.

  • LMG (light machien gun) lovely. MG42

    Now thats fun.

Im my platoon we had a foul hold his hand right
under the the MG, so all the empty shells exited
    into his hand.. Roflmao.

Alot of rounds being fired, no barrel changes ?
    oh well good show.

By Eqvaliser 1179572369 Reply Spam Moderate Up Moderate Down
    • Being careful

There is no need to really change the barrel. The reason for it is if the troops ran through several belts of ammunition in one session, the barrel would be TRASHED. Look at videos of how the modern German Army trains its soldiers. They always fire in short controlled bursts. This drastically extends the barrel life. Even when it first came out, the owner's manual from 1942 said to use controlled bursts and only fire in full auto for long periods as a last resort.

  • about the nazis...

Its not that i like em or anything but lets face it man they fought for 5 years against the entire world the only things keeping them from winning were poor roads in Russia , extreme weather and Hitler not letting them retreat in strategic times during the war.By the way do u know the MG-42 was the best machinegun of its time?

By Tanasescu 1153689019 Reply Spam Moderate Up Moderate Down
    • Yes...

it was a further improvement of the MG34. The MG42 utilized metal stamping, making it easier and cheaper to manufacture than the MG34. Its high rate of fire was well known and feared by allied troops (sounds like tearing canvass). It is also extremely reliable and its barrel can be replaced in a matter of seconds.

    • Chainsaw

That's why the soldiers who encountered it called it Hitler's Chainsaw.

  • mg3- a brief description

the mg3 was an adaptation of the 1940's era mg40.the only thing that changed was in fact the caliber: 7,62 mm which was the standard caliber of the then new-founded NATO. later on the americans borrowed some aspects of the mg3, for their m60 primarily the feed system, as well as, if i recall correctly, the gas operation.it did not work well in the jungles of vietnam, so it gained the nickname "the pig".later these shortcomings were all ironed out in the m60a3 and later versions.the fact that this machine gun has been in combat for 50-60 years testifies that is n fact a sturdy, reliable weapon.it has a distinctive sound when it fires, like ripping fabric, due to it;s high rate of fire.this sound was frightening to allied soldiers during WW 2. that is all, i apologise if i blabber too much.

  • for largsm too

    100 shot?are you sure?i think Mg3 fire 800 per /m,like other machine guns in 7.62
MG42 was 7.92X57 mauser, and before that: MG34(first new generation german MG) fire at 1500r/m!!

    • I'm shure..

Bricedenise: No I didn't know that the M60 was some sort of a copy.. But the MG3 is pretty much a blueprint of the MG43..
100 shots im shure... 2 bands of 50 rounds each clipped together... 1200 rounds a minute..

It's also mounted eg. in the Norwegian IFV CV9030N (same function as the american M2 Bradley) on which I served as a gunner in 04/05...

    • Wake up

I'm not arguing the M60 is not a copy.. I'm shure you are right.. And every source I have looked up says the MG3 fires from 17 to 22 rounds per second. You do the math...

  • Carl Gustav?

The Carl Gustav is a 84 mm recoil free cannon (rocket propelled grenades). Not a 12,7 mm (.50) machine gun..

its heavy, tough to manouver and you rarely hit what you're aiming at. MG3 is usually used for contact shock firing. Oh and yeah, its a bitch to clean, the endpiece S**ks even more than of a 12.7cal (carl gustaf)

      Gimme a AG3 any day

this just an MG 42(machine gun of german armyWW2)in 308(7.62x51mm). MG42 was in 7.92 and fire 1200round /minuts!!!

    • hmm

Something like that.. The MG3 (witch is a norwegian abbrevation for Maskingevær (Machinegun) 3) is a modified version of the MG42 used by the germans in WW2. The guy at the end of the clip fires approx 100 rounds in 5 secs. That's 1200 rounds per minute... And yes, it's 7,62 X 51 - the same as the stanard assault rifle of the norwegian army: AG3.
