In this video tutorial I'll show you how to save large maps from Google Maps without having to stitch together screenshots or anything so you can use them for whatever you want. For example you could store them on a mobile device so you don't have to carry around an actual map or access the internet.
Of course the method also works for satellite images.

  • Does this still work?

When I opened the file I created in Editor (i.e. rescaled to 10x size) what I got was a Google Map that covered 10x the area, not a Google Map at 10x the resolution. Has Google perhaps changed how Maps work in order to prevent people from doing this? Or am I missing something?

    Hello,

you paste the link from maps.google into editor. What editor is it? Does it install somewhere during screengrab installation?

    Thank you very much!

    • oops

I just realized that this could be a little confusing. Editor is what it's called in the german version of Windows. In the english version it's called Notepad. You should find it under "Accessories" in the start menu. notepad.exe is located in the windows folder. You can also launch it by clicking Start->Run and typing notepad.
      Sorry for that!

  • ..

There is actually a better way to save screen pictures..

Press the button: Print - Screen. Then open Paint or other photo software and hold the key Ctrl and then press V. (Ctrl V)

    • I guess you didn't watch it until the end. The point of using Screengrab is that "Print Screen" just captures what's on the screen whereas Screengrab can save the whole content of the browser window.
