I don't understand how this guy can get up after such a kick... ITF taekwondo is more hardcore than its southern counterpart olympic tkd. Look at the speed of the kicks.

  • More senior grade wins

4th dan (expert) or above creamed the (novice) less than 4th dan, spectacular kick you'd have to agree, wish mine were like that (sadly they're not). I wish all us TKD practitioners (ITF and WTF) would not get involved with gamesmanship, it only weakens the styles so don't knock the other style as there is good and not so good in both forms

    • ITF WTF black belts

They exsist all over the globe I can recall a couple of them with out even breaking a sweat, I also know a ITF 5th dan, who holds the rank of an Akido 2nd dan and is also higly regarded in two other totally unrelated forms . . . of course I'd wouldn't want to have a disagreement with him . . . lol

  • Makgi

I totally disagree about lack of defensive techniques, there are hundreds of makgies (blocks) in Tae Kwon-do, involving blocks with several parts of the hand, forearm, wrist, foot and leg. In most cases its easier to evade than block and counter. Please refer to General Choi's 15 volume encyclopedia. Also ITF Tae Kwon-do headquarters are based in Vienna Austria, ITF is a truly international organisation and does not view its self a North Korean Body.

  • ITF vs WTF

This is for all the silly chest-beating comments below.
Both ITF and WTF teach humility, respect, indomitable spirit, honour and more. So do other martial arts. I don't see alot of respect or humility here. You guys might be thugs, or bar brawlers, not true martial artists.
Besides, sparring is simply one part of TKD competition, there are many more facets to TKD than just this aspect. Surely you all would have investigated this particular art to be so knowledgeable in judging it? *raises eyebrow*

  • i agree

i agree with comment below and secondly how do you get more farther south than south korea, ITF = south korea, WTF = north korea. as for more hardcore, learn your stuff uploader. it may seem soft because no punches to the face are allowed in itf compotiton fighting, how ever i do feel this takes away the meaning of the art, Translated literally "Tae" stands for jumping or flying, to kick or smash with the foot. "Kwon" denotes the fist-chiefly to punch or destroy with the hand or fist. "Do" means an art or way.

    • WRONG!

WTF tkd comes from the south. ITF is supposedly neither, General Choi (creater of TKD before the split) didn't belief in the divide of the country and the ITF still follow his teachings

    • I DISAGREE

TAE KWON DO means "the way of the hand and foot" no flying or smashing!!!!!!

  • video uploader

The guy who said that ITF taekwondo is better than WTF which is not called 'olympic taekwondo' is quite clearly wrong, just because he sees one poxy video clip from an ITF fight with a knockout thats what he bases his opinion on, in most ITF fights have rules where your not even allowed to kick to the head, its by no means hardcore

    • Well...

I played Taekwondo in Egypt, so I don't know about the variations and all that (strategy here is you train and play for the championship, nothing else) - but I did participate in non-armour matches, and I can tell you it is nasty nasty nasty... So this style of fighting may indeed be more hardcore, although granted, the headguards aren't much use when a someone is kicking your head with wood-breaking force.

    • haha...you played?

lolz no kidding kidding...hey i didnt know there was taekwondo in egypt...wow thats really cool...and yeah true huh? the head gear is pretty much...only for decoration...and it aint that great looking anyway...its rather ugly i think lolz...only thing that's good for is to encourage you to kick their head harder cos they wont feel it...pffft hahaha wotta joke lolz...them kicks go straight through the head gear...did you do itf or wtf? itf is this video clip...itf's the fighting without the headgear and chest guards...

    • look up your facts

I have an ITF black belt and I have never seen an ITF competition where you are not allowed kick to the head... I wouldn't say ITF is hardcore, UFC is hard core but ITF is definately harder than WTF.

  • TKD

TKD has long ranged powerful attacks but the only problem is that its not best at blocking jst movin back i guess

By ji ral ha ji ma 1152634322 Reply Spam Moderate Up Moderate Down
    • MMMMMM

I agree with the long range powerful attacks but as a dedicated student of wtf TKD ive found that using close in body attacks voids the advantage as once you are close most kicks (not all!) are severely compromised!!

      Kam sam ni da!!

    • I agree

I agree with you. they have a good offense, but not such an effective defense in my opinion

By dabdod 1159122387 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down
    • ohh i beg to differ...

yeah usually the normal reaction when someone attempts to hit you ya go backwards..but these guys...mainly the guy who won the fight...had a pretty decent defense...you see in the clip...about 19 seconds into the clip...the guy who lost thows in a left side kick...the guy receiving runs in to shorten the length of the kick...without the kick fully extended, that guy would hit nothing and he's left himself vulnerable for an attack. the only reason why the other guy didnt hit him when he had the chance (you can see him raise his hand like he's about to strike but chooses to hold back) is because the guys back was already turned and itf rules state you can't attack (punch or kick) the opponents back (back of the head, etc.)...if he turned away when he strikes it wouldve been ok. so id say that was a good call on the winner's part...but yeah i see where you get the idea about their defense...they do that a lot lolz...

  • Hmm...

I won't even bother reading the post below about who should've won or what-not, but with the speed of their kicks, and boths fighter's crappy blocking skills it really was just a matter of time before one connected.

Tae kwon do is tag with the feet; it's for kids. No defense but going backward. You see this a lot in "full contact" tae kwon do.

  • this is really good...

yeah well even though itf rules often state they cant hit to the head (usually punching) they still do anyways. since when does everyone follow the rules? lolz people tend to break them wouldn't you think? myself i'd like to think itf is more hardcore than wtf. mainly because of the punches being allowed and we (note i say 'we' lolz) don't wear those big chest guards, armour or what ever they called. that doesn't mean to say wtf, or this 'olympic taekwondo' isnt hardcore, nahh that would be quite wrong. although wtf are very fancy and have no guard, their kicks are pretty quick and precise. i think it would be, rather splendid to watch a fight between itf and wtf with mixed rules. preferablly itf rules...they really should do that again some day....

    • shut up man

You're just mentioning names that are only good at TKD and that's all they're good at nothing else! TKD is ineffective in close quarter fighting and is ineffective if you were to go up against someone in a bar. Reality says that you would likely have to ask your opponent to fight you in the open if you wanted to have a chance in taking him down otherwise you had better adapt and add some other martial arts into your training so as to have a better chance in winning a real fight in the real world. There are no referees in a real fight!

    • Funny thing is this

no one seems to notice or mention that just bout every TKD school also teaches Hap Kido...I have been training in TKD and Hap Kido for a litle over a year.. im no were near perfection but i have had the unwanted opratuinty to test my skills when a few guys at a club decided to start a fight with me.. basick TKD blocks came in really handy at upclose contact, Hap Kido wrist locks to counter after the block and then one kick to the side of the knee to take the guy down...I agree in these competitions, these guys are all over the place, and may as well need a football stadium to finish a fight.. but in reality, in street fights, kicks should stay under teh belt adn those dont need much space, but there is a reason why TKD and Hap Kido are taught in the same school... just these guys tend to focus more on TKD for the metal, but those that train to know the art are well trained in both.. and in a street fight would be a tough opponent.

By rysky007 1160262258 Reply Spam Moderate Up Moderate Down
    • yup yup...agreed

it's a tough call when it comes to fighting out in the real world. your opponents really agressive and if your not in control of yourself, the adrenaline rush can stop you in your tracks and you got so much moves you'd have no idea what to do...sounds obsured but it happens...seeing experienced black belts get taken down when they're confronted by someone cursing and making a racket...itfs better for street fighting i think because wtf is just too involved with kicking. they need to be able to punch, and effectively too. and also get used to fighting and being alert because after all...it is a street fight, and anyone can jump in at any time, and there aint no ref to save you...

    • if your talking about the beauty of move...

if your talking about the beauty of moves is better than muay thai but if your talking about power it just muay thai... tom jaar learn taekwondo becuase he is an actor he want to add some MOVIES moves (moves that atract non martial artest people).
