    bruces222, they are both wrong. The cop is trained to deal with most situations without getting angry, and manhandling the child was way over the top. The kid should learn when to listen and when to talk. Just answer the questions, if you feel strongly about it, take his name and badge number and report him.

      Cops work for us. This cop does not seem to know that. I agree that the kid should learn strategy for dealing with near-psychopaths, but the kid is not in any way "wrong". Everything wrong here is the cop, taking a citizen's property, talking to them abusively. This cop should be put on a beat where he doesn't have to interact with kids. Personally, I would just fire him. Would you want this guy working for you?

    The officer got suspended for this behavior. He was much too harsh toward those teenagers and shouldn't have talked that way to them. Sometimes a good video like this can cost people their jobs so people better be aware of bad behavior.

    This video shows one of the most vilest abuses of power I have ever seen. From a brief perusal I counted no less than 5 seperate offences committed by this Officer Riverera. If anyone knows who this man is there is a public duty to identify and report him to the relevant authorities - he must be taken of the streets.

    The cop is only at fault, first of all he's making threats,secondly he's raising his voice to a miner which makes him look awfully cowardly. He should be severely disciplined if not fired.     This blatant use of positional power probably stems from a childhood incident of bullying. It is likley that he has sort out a job where he can get respect and power from the cloths he wears. Sadly he has mislead himself into believing that his actions are justifiable or appropriate. Respect is not something you can enforce, it has to be earned.     Most of you are right , the cop did over react to the situation, his grabbing the kid was not needed at all . On the other hand the kid should show the cop some respect if only because he is an officer of the law and the kids elder. Those are basic manners that parents today do not instill in their kids. Cops are much more understanding when treated with respect . There has been several times when the way I treated an officer kept me from being arrested. Yes sir , No sir type stuff goes a long way .

      I agree that "Yes sir, No sir" etc, is a good strategy to employ when dealing with a bully with a gun. However, don't blame the kids. The police are there to protect the kids (as well as the owners of the property, other people walking there, etc). This guy is the employee of those kids. He should treat his employers with respect, even if it's his job to tell them to stop what they are doing.

    I've watched this clip over and over again for at least 10 times so that i could better understand the entire situation. "Do not judge the book by it's cover" (1) First of all, regardless what the kid had done....the cop clearly overreacted. Nevertheless (2) I coudnt help but notice that the front part of this clip was missing. Clearly this boys must have really misbehaved or really disrespectful to have triggered such reaction by the officer.Even in our country we have kids like this.

    I don't know the law that good but don't you have the right to not say anything when asked ? and under what circumstances is a cop allowed to engage in physical harassment ?

    Another thing, cops should act different to children, try to get on their side, explain how things are and what were they doing wrong, in worst case threaten them with a ticket. I'm sure if this cop would have acted nicely, these children would have understood. They don't look like the kind that smoke, drink or not obey their parents.
    Acting psychological has a huge impact on minds of young teenagers.
