HONOLULU -- A Coast Guard rescue aircrew hoisted an ill man from a motor vessel approximately 80 miles north of Oahu Tuesday at 10 a.m.

The Coast Guard received a call from the crew of the 789-foot motor vessel Cma Cgm Purple at 11:45 a.m. Monday concerning an ill 25-year-old male crewmember.

A Coast Guard flight surgeon recommended the crewmembers of the Cma Cgm Purple tend to the ill man while awaiting the Coast Guard rescue crew.

"It was a textbook case," said Lt. Michael Darrah, a rescue helicopter co-pilot at Air Station Barbers Point and a member of the rescue team. "The Coast Guard coordinated with the crew of the motor vessel, and a Coast Guard rescue aircrew provided communications and cover from above," said Darrah.

The man was transported to The Queens Medical Center on Oahu.
