International
He dominated soccer for almost three decades with a passion matched only by that of his fans throughout the world.
Performance at a high level in any sport is to exceed the ordinary human scale. But Pele's performance transcended that of the ordinary star by as much as the star exceeds ordinary performance. He scored an average of a goal in every international game he played — the equivalent of a baseball player's hitting a home run in every World Series game over 15 years. Between 1956 and 1974, Pelé scored a total of 1,220 goals — not unlike hitting an average of 70 home runs every year for a decade and a half.
While he played, Brazil won the World Cup, staged quadrennially, three times in 12 years. He scored five goals in a game six times, four goals 30 times and three goals 90 times. And he did so not aloofly or disdainfully — as do many modern stars — but with an infectious joy that caused even the teams over which he triumphed to share in his pleasure, for it is no disgrace to be defeated by a phenomenon defying emulation.
to those who thinks players of today are way better than PELE , just name me one player who can give his country 3 World Cups , i am not even gonna mention the 1966 World Cup when they broke his leg just to prevent him from getting another World Cup , so that would be 4 World Cups by PELE , so until then PELE will always remain The KING of Football , and his KINGDOM will always remain OUT OF REACH !!!!!
By L F 1149883354 Reply Spam [+9] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemovePele will always and forever be king. And I,m sick of people comparong him to players like Freddy Adu, are you kiddin me!
By seanyboyson 1165076883 Reply Spam [+4] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removebut comes to his comments these days... who's agree that he is... quite a jerk..? hahaha...
By buntut babi 1191904355 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemovePele received an injury during the first round of the 1962 world cup... which left him out of the tournament. IN other words, Brazil obviously didn't win in 1962 because of Pele... he "only" helped them win 2.
By sexybootay 1161411538 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removehe won da 1958 den da 1962 den dey lost in 1966 wen dey were knocked out by england...dat year england won da eorld cup and after dat match he swore never to play in a world cup again after his leg was broken den ppl convinced him to go bak den he won da 1970 world cup den he retired and went bak to football after havin lost some mony to play in da states!!

By Bratnichenko 1151990239 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThere is a reason why the best player on a team wears number 10 today. It's because of Pele. In Africa once Nigeria I think it was warring factions agreed to a 2 day cessation of the civil war because the king came there to play a game. He was for his World Cup team at 17 and he was the best for numerous years. He never played in Europe because the government in Brazil declared him a national treasure and forbade Santos from trading him. He was a complete player. Headers, free kicks, penalties, bicycle, left footed shots, right footed shots, dribbling past numerous players. He set the standard by which people are compared today. Maradona did great things for the game back in 86 but I wouldn't call him the standard. He was very one footed as great as he was. Also you can't escape the fact that he wasn't consistent for as many years as Pele. Probably because of drugs and also he wasn't a great athlete. Remember it's not the time that a player plays in but the competitive spirit inside a player that makes them great. People I have heard compare Maradona to Pele saying Maradona was better because he didn't have another "star" on the team. Pele outshone the other "stars" on his team. That shows how great he was. Look at my comment title. There is a reason why the best players wear number 10 today. Maradona himself said he wasn't trying to be like Pele. If over 30 years after Pele retired he is still being talked about that is the true testament of greatness. Just check out the greatest miss ever where he dummied the goalkeeper. Players today have these moves but they wouldn't necessarily try this in a game. Long live the king!!!
By sanco 1159581619 Reply Spam [+4] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI am a Nigerian and truly, the largest and most populous black nation stopped war and hosted Pele
By blackeinstein 1195834376 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethanx for the knowledge.. is that for real??? the nigeria thing??
By buntut babi 1191905383 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI've got to give it to Pele. No one comes a close second to him. Some folks would want to put Maradona with Pele, but that would just be wrong. Granted I love Maradona, but Pele is a phenomenon.
By toddler 1149050093 Reply Spam [+3] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveMaradona is better than PELE , cause he can also score goals with his !!!!! HAND !!!!! , and also he can use cocaine while he's playing
By L F 1149882957 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveMaradona is a awful human being but he was the best football player in the world, he can do the tricks off the field and on. Maradona can go through gaps in defences that aren't there, unfortunately I would put him top.
By waxer 1182861368 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeis that frigen man! :)
By RyanIsHere 1156995357 Reply Spam [+2] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewho ever ur name is do not ever talked about "king" pele like that. the man is the greatest player to ever play the game and to say players today are better then him is so rude. he had so many skills making the game and players look so easy . if pele was to rejuvenite in time he will do what he did 50 years ago as u called it. learn to reconize extradinary gift . the "king" is unmatched to any players for the exception of few who u compare ( and stress the word compare) so little man of little mind show some respect and bow to the "king" and i can say with confidence no player will ever break his scoring record thousands goals long live the king event went he is no longer with us . he will live in the memories of fans for generations to come thank u!!!!!
By jtblazz 1152949171 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWell Pele was great, just like Maradona, and like Ronaldo was in the late 90's, and it looks like Messi will become one of the best ever. Pele got 3 world cups, but Ronaldo and Maradona got the same record.
By Brother_Louie98 1233612042 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveEven if some one could play soccer like that now they'd only get head butted by the french ;)
By SoWut4444 1159079954 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveNearly all of the Brazilian team played in Brazil along with Pele at the time, read his autobigraphy. Nobody will ever be better than him even if he was ahead of his time. His is incomparable, accept it.
By sd2502 1152812615 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeteammates even relaxed as he had the ball coz they had confidence in him.he was also manned by many people from the opponents team.Didnt know u were great but i give u the credit now
By megirl 1150030918 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removegreat video giving respect where respect is due, before anybody else there was only one..Pele

By NeoQuello 1149804771 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI really wish they had better cameras back then. We cant really tell how great he was because of lack of footage of him.
By PeronGuyDude 1149799397 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removec'mon, can't you already tell that he was the best player ever? only maradona comes close. but i agree i wish they had better cameras, his best goal (at Maracana) was never caught on film!
By danielpassi 1179907049 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveOK LET START PELE WAS CALLED THE KING OK AND MARADONA WAS CALLED GOD BECAUSE OH THE HAND OF GOD IN 86 IN MEXICO OK AND I KNOW THIS BECAUSE MARADONA IS WAY BETTER THEN PELE AND YOU CAN SEE THAT WHEN HE BRINGS DOWN THE WHOLE ENGLAND TEAM BY HIM SELF AND THEN AFTER SCOREING THE HAND OF GOD WITCH IS ONE OF THE BEST GOALS IN HISTORY OH SOCCER
By nito651 1194708700 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removemaradonna was wayyy better than pele ever was , pele only appeared to be that gooad cuz of the weekness of his opponents of other players anyone who played football could see that if he saw this vid
n for those of u who were sayin that he was the reason behind brazil winning 3 world cups i would tell they r dead wrong cuz in 1958 players like garencha , fafa n dede were the players that brought the cup home , in 1962 pele was injured in the second game n he didnt play any other match in this cup n brazil won in thecup inspite of that n that shows that with or without pele brazil were good at that time
You knowledge of the game is blinding you. The same i could say about Maradona. Defender of nowadays are better and the game is faster then 20 years ago when Maradona played.
