This mom looked more like a fat farmer grandmother - real redneck too. Jerry Springer show material. Would never be a good reason to assault a teacher especially in front of one's child. This type of physical abuse is unacceptable and could leave emotional scars on the children. There is too much violence in schools today and the teachers are not appreciated enough as it is. Whatever words were said about "Terry & THC in her system" was a bad excuse to hit.

Means you cant have double standards, violence is either right or wrong. You cant condone it when it suits you, and then say its maybe ok to smack a teacher. If the teacher acted wrongly she should be dealt with accordingly, by the school. I can just see her daughter saying to her friends 'how cool it was when mum hit my teacher'. There is no excuse to sock someone in the face for something they said. That's the problem in school and society these days, people think it is OK to assault someone for such petty reasons, esp. a person in a position that should be respected. For years so-called parents have been expecting schools to completely take care of their kids and it's getting worse. Many kids learn nothing good at home and teachers are so busy trying to just maintain control of the class that they have no time to teach anymore. Oh, and they can't discipline anyone or they get sued. There is a reason American schools perform so poorly compared to most other industrialized countries, and the root of the problem is lack of responsibility at home. I used to be a teacher, and crap like this is the reason I left. Sooner or later I am afraid I would have been fired for telling some parent the truth. (Or jailed for showing them the error of their ways, heh heh.)

The camera was there for a reason. Probabaly because the cameraman knew something was about to go down. Looks more like a courtroom. Now I officially feel old. When I went to school the word of the teacher was law. If a teacher told a parent the student was acting up, that was the end of the story and the student was punished. I simply never even thought to talk back to a teacher.
This video reveals that the system and parents are rotten at the core. The teacher shouldn't have even bothered to quarrel with parents who stand behind rotten kids. Why even waste your breath on hill billy trailer park folk and their sassy miscreants?
The teacher should be sent to mandatory counseling for losing control. The mother should be locked in a cage for resorting to violence, without her cigarettes.
The sickest part is that there is actually someone out there who would stand up for this broad. Her actions are indefensible. There is no string of words a teacher could say to me that would cause me to punch a teacher in front of my child. Anyone who feels different is obviously low rent.

Sure, some teachers are smug sometimes, but there is no comment she could have made to merit that. If the teacher was out of line, take it up with the school board. All I know is, I taught 7th grade for 3 years (then quit teaching completely) and believe me, it is hard not to be a bit smug when parents of horrid students show up and you realise why the kids are the way they are. The worst part is when the parent stares at you and acts like their kid is the second coming of Christ when you know they are one of the worst kids in the class.

I have heard from many people about cherishing every moment, of course that can be hard to do when comforting a screaming baby at 3am, heh heh. I'll tell you something though, I never really wanted kids. To me, most people's kids are kind of annoying, and I know how I am - I really like my personal time and space - but my wife really wanted at least one, so eventually I relented because people always say that it's different when they are your own. The first couple of weeks I thought those people were a bunch of liars, but now... I would not trade being a father for anything! Mine is only 5 months old and already I can't imagine what I would do without her. I just hope she takes after mom or we're in trouble!

I'm pretty sure I heard the teacher say "Terry had T.H.C in her system". The next comment is directed at the mother, but cannot be heard. Perhaps it was something like ..." Terry had T.H.C in her system........ with a mother like you no wonder she's a druggy!" Could be anything, but if it was anything along those kinds of lines, blaming the mother for her daughter being a pothead (or whatever else) I can understand why she clocked her one. I'm not saying what she did was right, but I understand it.
Someone insults me or my children they better be sure of what they're doin, after 18 years of Martial arts i MIGHT do a lot more then one little 'granny jab' to the nose.

It doesn't matter what the teacher said, the mother was wrong, both morally and legally. She could have and should have been arrested for assaulting the teacher. This is the worst kind of exampe for a parent to set for a child. This kid not only had to witness her own mother behaving like a thug, but also probably had to deal with the shame and humiliation of seeing her mother handcuffed and taken to jail for assault. And for what? Because the teacher said something the mother didn't like or agree with??
Your statement that you know martial arts and might do something more than just "granny jab" to the nose.... Are you saying that you would have punched or kicked the teacher or anyone else, in front of your own children, for merely saying something you didn't like?? If you meant it then you're even worse than this ignorant woman. It's no wonder that many kids today have poor manners and a lack of respect for other people, using violence against someone who disagrees with you is WRONG!!!

There are bad teachers, just like there are in any other profession. But only morons go punching out people just because they disagree with them. And of all professions, teaching is probably the least appreciated, most overworked and underpaid of them all. I oughta know, I did it for decades.
