  • Pretty darn cool

Thanks for posting this - I always forget to go outside and look whenever there's some astronomical phenomenon in the offing - and when I do remember, it's always cloudy.

  • ...what *is* that?

What is the white "speck" falling from the lower right corner of the moon just after it reaches full eclipse?

  • awsome, i was hoping someone time-lapsed

the reason that the moon is redish, is that the gravity of the earth bends the light around the earth, and the atmosphere gives the light a tint (the same reason you have redish sunsets).
When you have a solar eclipse, the reason you see the white ring around the moon, is the gravity of the moon is bending the light around it.
in fact, you can see objects (stars and planets) that are on the other side of the sun at that time, physically blocked by line of sight.

    • synchronous rotation

moon is in synchronous rotation, meaning that it keeps nearly the same face turned towards the Earth at all times.

check the title in wikipedia along with "the moon"...

  • I saw this

I was on an Island off of Hondurs called Roatan. I had no idea that there was supposed to be an eclipse that night. We were driving to the house we rented from a bar and I looked up to see a real cool looking orange moon. That was not the best part of it though. With the island being a developing area there were NO streetlights or city lights. I have never seen more stars in my life. Someone else that was with us did get some of it on video from the balcony of the house. Once I get a copy of the video I will be sure to post it. Hopefully the stars show up.

    Anyways, thanks for posting!

  • Quick eclipse!

Thanks for showing this, I had been looking for a video of the event. I would prefer it if the whole thing were slowed down. Its hard to use the pause feature enough to savor all the fantastic views. How many shots did you take? What kind of camera and what settings did you use? Thanks for sharing!
