It's not like they're coordinated to take place exactly every 14 seconds - it just means that about 6171 burglaries take place in in the course of 24 hours, which on average is one every 14 seconds - this doesn't say anything about their distribution - neither geographically or chronometrically

The burglarys dont happen exactly every 14 seconds. They just divided their number for 1 day by the number of seconds in 24 hours (86400) for example.

even though most happen at night, on average one will happen about every 14 seconds. Because what i think they do is they add up all the burglaries in one year and it equals to about 1 every 14 seconds, if there were less burglaries per year the average would go down to about 1 every 30 seconds or so.

I recall an episode where they tested a similar system. The beam was easily viewable, and was easy to circumvent. That is, unless you've set a minefield of beams criss-crossing the floor.
And no offense to KipKay, but did anyone else think product placement when they saw this episode?
