In this series you'll learn how to do it step by step how to calculate square roots from 1 to 10,000 without a calculator. It's a really cool trick to perform it to your friends. This video has easy number as examples, but I'll be posting videos with more examples, just drop a line in the comments to let me know if you're interested.

  • Try a number like 529

Doesn't work so well for a number like 529...

    • Those type of numbers would've been...

...the examples I was gonna use on my next video in the series but I don't believe I'll be making those anymore, so let me try to explain it to you. For 529, just take the closest perfect square that fits within 5, in this case it is 4, square root of 4 is 2. So your answer is either 23 or 27. Just perform the last step to see which one is the correct answer.

    • Another case is...

...if the last number does not have a perfect square, (i.e. 225, 256...) step 1: simply repeat the last number and calculate its difference to ten. (this is a repost, my previous reply mysteriously dissapeared from the website)

    • It's just to check the results...

The calculator is used on the video to "prove" that the method works. I don't know if you noticed, but the calculator was only used to check the results, like you would do if you were to ask someone to give you a perfect square for you to calculate on your own WITHOUT a calculator. People may be skeptic, but once they punch the numbers in the calculator they would see that you are right.
