This is a coin manipulation that requires little dexterity, but a fair degree of finesse. To improve the probability of the viewers' success, I am demonstrating the effect in its simplest form. Though many are captivated by the physically visual element of the "Coin Flip", it also lends itself to the imagination and illusion.

  • After thought to last response...

By the way, the "Copper-nichol clad" Kennedy half dollar weighs in at 11.34 grams, the "Silver-clad" Kennedy half dollar weighs 11.5 grams and the "Silver" Kennedy half dollar weighs 12.5 grams. I can still manage to flip all of these, but it seems to be getting tougher. Would it sound as though I'm making excuses if I said, "I'm the oldest I've ever been?" ha ha...

I apologize for the delay. I haven't visited this site in awhile. It seems that our pasts have been amazingly paralleled by this effect. My father was a semi-professional magician. We were introduced to this little gem at a magic convention in Washington, Pennsylvania (U.S.A.) in about 1968, by an elevator operator at the hotel where the convention was being held. Unfortunately, I have no recollection of the gentlemans name. Like yourself, I have not seen this trick done by anyone, aside from the fellow who showed me and the few individuals I've since taught. Thanks for sharing your story. I hope that one day our paths may cross...Best regards!

  • Definitely not a fake

Curiously I also learned this trick over forty years ago. I learned it from and uncle who showed it to me and my brothers when i was about seven. Of course we thought it was incredible and all wanted to learn it and spent the next couple of weeks practicing it. I was fortunate enough that I was able to get a really strong effect with the coin actually jumping a good four centimetres above my wrist during the flip. My brothers soon forgot the trick but I never have and have continued to practice it ever since. These days i can actually turn over a standard 11.5 gram poker chip using this method. I am in Australia by the way. I have up until this poiint never met anyone that could do this trick before I showed it to them. I would be really interested to know who it was who showed it to you.

  • still a little weird

but it works. i tried it for a couple minutes, and could get the coin to just kinda jump up some, not the whole flip. so its not bs. my forearm was hurting afterwards though.

It may take some time to get the technique down. The person that showed me didn't give me many hints. But, three days later and a sore wrist, I was able to make the "Coin Flip" work, as described. Hang in there.

Yes, over forty years ago a guy at a magic convention showed me this effect, one time. Three days later I finally figured it out. Since then, I've selectively taught several others how to do it. Until now, I've not been anxious to share the details with most people. Keep trying and Good Luck.

Sorry you haven't had success with the "Coin Flip". I can assure you that if executed properly it does work. Concentrate on the finger position and rotating the hand in a complete circular motion, starting in the up position. When done correctly, you will feel a snap in your wrist. Thanks for your comment.

  • I think It's fake

I think it's a trick shown only in video, to make people twist their hands.
