In this follow up video, we test the effect of a civilian taser model which, like the police version, fires two electrically wired darts that deliver 50,000 volts of electricity.

The civilian model is similar to what police have, with this key difference: Pulling the trigger on the police version provides a five-second stun. The civilian trigger starts at 10 seconds and can be squeezed several times continuously to get a maximum 30 seconds.

The rationale? Five seconds is enough for police to subdue a suspect, said a company spokesman, but civilians need a 30-second shock to allow time to escape a dangerous situation by shooting the Taser and running away.

We just wanted to see if it the effect would be any different; possibly intensified being closer to the spine.

So was it more intense on the back or front?

It looked to be about the same but, to really know, we'd need to hit the same person from the front and back to get their opinion.
