- I just did this...
I was in Roatan, Honduras about a month ago. we took a day trip and got to get up close with them and touch them. Then we got to go snorkling with them. It was real cool. If you ever go snorkling with dolphins and there is a group of people you will notice that everyone stays right with all of the dolphins and you will get kicked alot by all of the people. I found out that if you swim away and rub your flippers together so that they squeek under the water some dolphins will come to you and you get your own private time with them. real fun. give it a shot :)

startled very easy. Having patience is the best way to get them to come to you. Most people would slap the top of the water but that actually upsets them like someone banging on our front door over and over again.

thats not how the ones I was with were. if you splashed the water they came to you and opened their mouth and scooped up water to throw at you.

I've never been that close to a dolphin, but I'd love to.
The stories about wild dolphins helping people in trouble at sea have long been waved aside as myth, but I read the other day that there are now properly documented and verified cases where it happened - including one where the dolphins circled a group of swimmers to protect them from a large shark.

had a chance to spend the day at Discovery Cove and swim with a dolphin too. Her name was Scarlet. You can get hands on like this at SeaWorld. Fun stuff.
