  • Glucose, Fructose, Galactose oh my!

Yes, fruit does have it's own sugar, it's made up of fructose, and yes it will add calories to your meal as would eating regular table sugar (Glucose). The good thing about fruit (not juice) is the fiber we receive from it when we eat it. The things that we absolutely need to avoid is corn syrups. Which (yet to be proven) is probably why diabetes is going through the roof. 100% fruit juice is okay, but in moderation. ALWAYS READ THE LABELS

  • Depends

If it's the "Garden Variety" juice, your right. Some are sugar free and only the natural glucose from the fruit itself sweetens the drink. Such as Juicy Juice.

  • natural sugars

natural sugars called fructose are naturally in the fruit....no way to change that

    • Fructose is a sugar too...

and makes up a certain percentage of most fruit juice.
Not moderating juice consumption for kids means they are still getting a LOT of unneeded sugar in their diet

    • Not my area of expertise but:

Sugar is necessary, the fuel of our lives. Many foods in the end get converted into sugars so the body can use them. Charts and graphs of recommended daily consumption are at best guidelines.

  • I think...

Suger is different right? I mean an apple has suger in it. Fruit juice from what I understand is hydrated fuit from concentrate. The problem occurs when you see the suger added in. ..AKA high Fructose Corn syrup etc. ...but ya, these juice boxes.. Capri suns etc... are very bad for you.

    • There are indeed different sugars

but it is still sugar any way you cut it.
Different sugars are metabolized at different rates and have a different impact on insulin production in the body.
Some sugars, like fructose for example, may appear to be "better" because it takes less of it to make something sweet.

None of this changes the fact that there is 24g of sugar in that little juice box.

Your body will take it in, use what it can immediately or temporary storage...and what it can't use, it stores away)

  • Theres just one kind of fresh & heal...

The one you make yourself out of fresh fruits.

  • youre WROND dude!!!

it NOT like they ADD 24 g of sugar... The fruit itself contains a lot of sugar...ALL FRUITS does......even the ones you "make yourself out of fresh fruit"... Get your facts straight...

    • Actually I'm not WROND (sic) dude!!!!

Unless it is fruit punch, they likely do not add in that much sugar...but it doesn't change the fact that most fruit juice on the market today is as high in sugar as pop (or even higher...checked out grape juice lately?)

The intent in the video was to demonstrate that it would be no different than adding that much sugar to a cup of water with some flavoring (oh, I almost forgot, they call that Kool-Aid)

Marketing it as wholesome goodness because it comes from fruit is B.S. They have convinced parents that kids should be drinking juice all day...may as well just give them pop and a vitamin C pill.
