  • Interesting but.. Questions please...

I heard a hard disk has to be open under very special circumstances; in a presurised chamber with no dust, no humidity etc, besides that hard drives come vacum sealed, once open like you did the disk is daamaged for good, no? Can you still revover information when its open and not vacum sealed? I have a damaged one and they want a fortune to recover my info.

the read/write head is microscopic in size, so a single speck of dust on the platter will have the same effect as putting a boulder on the freeway... humidity isn't as much of a problem though, as long as you give it time to dry up after putting it back together. I've placed plexiglass covers on hard drives before with a 25% success rate. out of 8 attempts, only two of them didn't suffer any ill effects, but my "clean room" was simply a closet that we sprayed down with distilled water to settle any dust in the air.

I suppose the platters still operate normally after oxidation? Hard drives will operate for a little while with the cover off, but don't expect a long life out of it. For one of the other comments, yes they are vacuum sealed and free of moisture and other particles. Also, before you take the cover off of a crashed hard drive, try putting it in a few zip lock bags and throw it in the freezer over night...plug it up and power the computer on as soon as possible after you take it out of the freezer. I promise you, if you take the cover off there is still nothing you can do to fix the drive, unless you very carfully remove the platters and place them in a working drive.

  • It's a fact

I have had a hard drive open before and it does act the same way you've shown.
You didn't show RESTORE but that acts in the same manner as DELETE.
