English is from Britain, so how can you say that british speak with an accent? americans, scotish, australians - they speak with an accent :P ;)
By vanowm 1146612563then there isn't technically an accent called "american." There are dozens and dozens of different accents all across American (more than the UK I would wager.) It's not like people mean the phrase "British accent" as an insult. It's a neutral term that people safely use to refer to an accent which comes from across the pond. How can you honestly expect someone who doesn't have the same cultural exposure to be able to pinpoint a given accent from the UK? I don't expect forgeiners to be able to do that with the American accents (yet they all seem to think we talk with a southern drawl; interesting.)
By Solarin 1146638434There are about 20 different British accents, some easier to understand than others. The Welsh ones are the ones I have the toughest time understanding. Cockney isn't so hard once you learn to play the H game with it.
If you like British comedy then it might help you enjoy them more if you take time to get used to the various accents. BBC cable would be the easiest way to accomplish this.
but it's great to see someone put it on film. Good chuckle, that.
