I saw it on the Discovery Channel....some scientist wanted to study it, so they towed a decoy seal, but real seals are caught the same way. Pretty cool stuff.

To all you idiots out there who dont know much about marine life: That shark is indeed a great white, and yes this clip IS real. Off the coast of South Africa there is an island called seal island where great whites linger. The underlying topography of the sea bed is what is unique and causes these creatures to get enough speed to lift themselves out of the water. The reason they do it is to knock the seal with extreme force rendering it lifeless then when re-entering the water they consume it!

It is 100% real, i have seen it numerous times and have been shark cage diving to whitness these great creatures. Maybe you guys should gey out of your shells, stop making up nonsence about camera lenses etc and actually come experience this beuty in real life.

These sharks reach the size of small yachts, its F*cking scary when one swims next to you when your out for a sail in false bay. They can even jump out higher than that, but i must commend the camera man.

1st for those of you that still think that this fish is a killer whale you better do some research, this fish is a great white shark, take a look at the clip people, clue no1..all whales have blow holes.....no not there butts, this animal very obviously does not, clue no2...whales do not have gill's there air breathers that why they have blow holes, this fish does have gill's as you can see water coming out from it..also take a look at the teeth, yes killer whales have teeth, but not shark teeth... eeehhhh!! not to mention there tails..... ddddeeerrrrr dats no whale tail by God, whales tails are flat going side to side, this tail is up and down....Ok I said it as plan and simple as possible for you simple minded to understand better ;) take a chill pill.

You guys dont know nothing about sharks...this is great white shark...its a special hunt mostly on seals (which is his favourite) he swims from deep water up to surface and he can reach up to 30km/h grab the preey jump out from water up to 2m...this is not a fake...its real

I've seen this in many shark documentaries:
Whenever the crew wants to get a cool shot of a shark leaping out of the water holding prey in its mouth, they dangle a fake seal over the surface and wait for the shark to charge it from below.

I guess in real life, sharks pursue prey underwater and rarely waste their energy leaping out of the water.

This shark is actually an orc.

Orcas' (killer whales') mouths are located on the end or their bodies- they're not undershot like this character. Also, orcas' teeth are smallish (by comparison), round and stubby, not long, triple-rowed, pointy and triangular, as is the case here. The orcas' dorsal fin is longer and shaped differently. I worked on fishing boats on the West Coast for over thirty years, and got up close and personal with many orcas. Used to watch them ride up on the beach and kill seals at Robson Bite. Many fishermen cheered them on because the seals have a way of fouling their nets.

Of course, the seals were only going after the nets because us fishermen were taking all the salmon . . .

If I remember, the debate was over whether they hunted that way because of their size or if it was because they lacked the energy for a prolonged chase like a cheetah. Saw this documentary a while ago but it still impresses. Can you imagine being the first person to see that?!? You're in a little boat (albeit in the middle of nowhere) and suddenly this twenty foot long shark bursts out of the water like a bleedin' cruise missile! A young bloke was taken the same way in South Australia not too long ago. He was being towed on a biscuit behind a boat and his mates reckon this large white flew out of the water and took him out.

The seal and the shark are real but the water is made of rubber.

A scary thought would be being out in the ocean in a small boat when one of those swim under you. Or even worse if a blue whale was to swim under you and come up for air. Could you imagine. Being close to something so huge and devistating is such a great experience and more people should try to see these things in person.

I saw this on "Be the Creature" by the Kratt Bros. They figure even the largest Great Whites (20 ft) can breach when taking out a seal.
