This is the "home edition" for the experiment "Turn Graphite into light". It is new because it uses only home items (no 12V car batteries), and also does not use a pancil but a Graphite refill from a normal Mechanical Pencil. Very interesting and easy to do !!! Try it yourself !

I guess that shows the conductivity of graphite, pretty cool. However, for burning stuff or as a light source, it's hardly worth it.

If you just take a thin paperclip or a small piece of copper wire, you can do that with significantly fewer batteries.

Why do you
have to use so many small batteries? Why can't you use fewer larger batteries? Easier to handle.

Mistake
In my video I write "Graphite". Please understand it as "Lead", as in our country we use the word "Graphite" to describe the mechanic pencil's lead.

- Thats Wrong
  Graphite and Lead are two different things. Graphite is much more brittle so it writes easier. Lead is harder, takes more pressure to mark. Now is this video, did you use graphite or lead???

  That's what I told in the comment above... We say "Graphite" in Brazil for the actual "Lead" for mechanical pencils. In this movie "Lead" is used. Although I think Graphite will also work. See ya

  Actually no... when we use 16 (2x 8 1.5v batteries), we raise the ampere rate. (That's explained in the video). What happens with 9V it's simply that they are strong in voltage but have a very tiny ampere rate, not enought to light the lead up.
