maybe he was the best player in his time..
but players are getting better and even better every year.
i do think that he might be the best born-to-be-great football player.... but i don't think he is the best player of all times.
so i think he COULD have been the best player of all times, but just didn't work hard enough to BE the best player of all times.

We are talking about 1980, and he did all that we can see now on football, he was playing in my country`s team many years, i could see him and was the best player of spain of course.
I born in 1974, and i saw him play, i´m spanish where is the best football of the world, and he was the best player.

Jorge "El Magico" Gonzalez is da best player in history. He jus doesn't get da credit because he didn't come from a good international team and cause of his lack of discipline. but da video says it all, jus look at da barcelona defence get fucked up!!! lol

I was born in El Salvador and move up here in Canada 22 years ago. My father was a great player as well (Toleke was his nickname)...but he always said that El Magico was the one. By many, mr. Gonzalez was #2 in the world after Pele but of course his bad discipline was his turning point in his carreer. The snake "la culevrita" was his move and apparently no one did it like him...even Ronnie. The real name of that move is the culevrita, not elastico etc...

It's just too sad that my country had to deal with a civil war and waste so many lifes and talent.

I'm Salvadorean and my father had known him when they were younger (they are the same age now). He was born in Chalatenango, El Salvador but moved to Santa Ana (where my father lived) to play for C.D. Fas when he was only 17 years old. He also had 5 other brothers who played in the 1st class division Salvadorean league, but he was the one who shined amongst all of them. He led El Salvador to the '82 World Cup in Spain by elminating Mexico as the underdog, which is why I think Mexicans hate so much. After him though, Central America hasn't come up with any decent players.

A lovely bit of football but the comments surounding the best player in the world explain why there is so much crap playing for country and making mega bucks when they are nothing more than overpaid atheletes. Todays game is faster but hardly better to watch than older stuff. Zidane is greatest player from europe no arguments as he can control whole game. Henry is great but not in same league as he doesn't influence the game like zidane. And maradona was the greatest of them all. He won a world cup and took a medioca team in Italy all the way. If you ask me, Maradona is the best. Ronaldinho is also a phenominal player, as is Henry, Bergkamp, and Zidane. But i still think that Maradona is better than any of them.

I'm from mexico and we know who Jorge "magico" Gonzalez is. He was voted(by fifa) the best player in the 20 first century in the concacaf region. The move everyone knows about that ronaldinho does was not invented by maradona,but by this guy. Except "magico" did better, I've never seen a player do it better then him. Why does a small country get such a great player,when my country(mexico) needs a legend to finally get respect from the euopean nations.
