It probably wasn't fake. I have boxed, amateur but still. When you get a solid hit on the jaw and your knees decides they're not cooperating with you, no matter how proud and courageous you are, no matter how much you want to stay up and influence the referee into letting you continue the fight, they just becomes marshmallows. You will go down! The best thing to do (if you can think clearly enough to know what is the best thing to do) is to stay down and rest as long as the ref counts allows you to.
