What happens when you put a lightbulb in a microwave? What do you think?!?!?!?!
very funny fight really... and a racist got lost down there too. he should have been posting comments on the helicopter shotdown forum...
By rivermaya 1147156974
how retarded. I wonder if these people finished high school
is the answer. If you put it in a bowl of water it doesnt blow up.
By Pixelink 1155756298yaieeah nicee..btw check out LiveDona.com for really hot girls
By BernardoPerkins130 1275687262My ex used to do this with the longer strip lights - just she only did it for about 3-5 seconds - longer makes the bulb explode
By DJShane 1152389613a bulp? come on me and my friends have put WAY better S**t in a microwave that not only lookscooler when turned on but makes a bigger BOOM! too
By SonIcfox 1148978190wonder what happins when u put a C02 cartige with black powder and a wick in it then seal it with wax light it put it in and run? imma go try be back later
By Whatucan 1147538944Out of curiosity, what would be the result of putting differant types of bulb in the micro ?? Such as Metal Halide, High Pressure Soudium, Flourecent.
If i had the balls and a camera i would conduct the experiment to find out.
??? Any takers on the task ???
the greatest battle of the geeks.....
come on all you geeks, slug it out.. and who ever comes out triumphant..
wil get a new book on ... getting laid for dumies
You know, stuff that would be cool to do but you cant.... like i would love to do that but dont really wanna break the microwave
By Word1982 1147138457Any glass molecule contains Carbons structure and at least 18 water molecules (O-H) this bond microwave work on and the electrons travel from the lowest orbit in the molecule to the higher orbit as a result the Bulb lightened first and expanded from the heat then exploded
By cosar 1147107494Your comment might have been a joke, but i would like to point some stuff out. Firstly, there is no such thing as a "glass molecule." Glass is the amorphous lattice structure that results from heating and recrystalizing certain materials that contain silicon (not carbon, though they do exist in the same chemical family). Secondly, like Ken4Fun was implying, while microwaves work by exciting hydrogen bonds, hydrogen bonds between an organic compoud and water doesn't result in electrons jumping orbitals to release energy as light.
What IS happening is that the microwaves are exciting the electrons in the metal filament in the bulb, which is generally tungsten-- this is the light you are seeing. Because the gas inside a light bulb is unreactive a fire doesn't start and the metal becomes more and more excited as it is bombarded with microwaves. Anyways, the result is the metal obtains so much energy that the tungsten filament lattice expands, breaks up, and breaks the glass in the bulb. This is part of the reason why people aren't supposed to put metal in the microwave, because the metal will "blow up."
But I didnt what to state the obvious.
By MrAndy 1147167013I am talking about the heat the electron movement cause the heat SO whats the difference between the travel of the electrons to cause the heat and light and what you said EXITING the electron. Exiting the eletron cause to jump to the upper level of energy. And you are right about the amorphous lattice structure which has the carbon BUT I AM TALKING TO GENERAL PEOPLE NOT CHEMISTS.
By cosar 1147134612If that's true, why it doesnt explode when I put a glass of water (or a empty glass cup) into the microwave and heat for a while
By Ken4Fun 1147114228...Get your glass of water then put it in the micowave. Switch in on full power for ten minutes then go into your bedroom while it is on. When in the bedroom, put on your best clothes (you have to do this in 7 minutes). Then go into your living room (you should have 3 minutes left) Grab all the money you have and your house keys (2 minutes left) Now open your front door, step outside and go and get a life.
By MrAndy 1147167575And a lot of the people commenting here should try it. I`m away to go out now and try to find one, thanks :o)
By Oliver_Klosov 1150325437to put an empty galss in the microwave it will heated but not as much as water. in this clip becuase of the presence of metal, thin glass and closed no space for expanded so its broken.
By cosar 1147135090Dude, seriously, thats really dangerous - if you don't put something in with the water (like a spoon or something) then the pressure builds up and it CAN explode, I've heard of several cases of people getting severe burns from heating water in a microwave. Just cos it's never happened doesn't mean it never will. Russian Roulette mate, use a kettle!!!
By Cassie111 1147117458CAN YOU REALLY BE THAT STUPID? It IS, in fact the impurities in the water (microscopic sediments, minerals, etc.) that let water bubble when it boils. Only distilled (100% pure water, no impurities) will not bubble when it boils, and thus holds its energy. If you put something in it after it has been microwaved, then it WILL explode. Not so with everyday water. No one is going to buy distilled water for anything other than science experiments and projects. It's too expensive to drink regularly, and doesn't have the minerals that give water its taste.
By RedLink 1150152094like the super-cool water case, water can also be heated up to more than 100 C(boiling temperature), and it can explode for any small disturbance. that's why for most boilers there're a few pieces of crack tiles in it to prevent them being over-heat. But the water we use in our daily life is not that pure, so it's not a problem at all -- relax and you do not have to worry about heating water in your microwave!
lol yeah OK, reading that back I realise that was dumb, sorry about that, blonde moment (yes, I am blonde. surprise surprise). What I meant is that you should put SOMETHING in with it like... i dunno a chopstick or something thats NOT metal lol! I still think it's dangerous...it's cos of the pressure or something that makes it explode, not the imputities, i've heard horrible stories.
By Cassie111 1147126633Yes, but isn't that kind of the point of heating water. What i'm talking about is heating up things like tea where you use the microwave to BOIL the water - do you see where i'm going with this??
What i'm trying to say is that you should be careful incase if you leave it in too long or something by accident and it boils - esecially if your microwave is more powerfull than you think - then it CAN explode and burn you. I'm not saying every time you put half a glass of water in the microwave to heat it up for 5 secs (for reasons best known to yourself) it's gonna explode, i'm just saying it can and does happen, better to be safe than sorry and all that. But, whatever, i'm not a scientist. It was just a bit of friendly advice after some of the stuff i've heard.
what if we arn't near the microwave.. there you go problem solved!
By imran1786 1154328842I had the bulb in the micro ready to go but I just read you warning in time!! Phew that was close. Is it ok to dry my wet cuttlery in the micro? Please tell oh giver of knowledge :o)
By MrAndy 1147167795That's dangerous too. Don't put metal things in there, they can explode. I hope your okay, and didn't put the cuttlery in there. I might be a bit late in telling you.
By goatpoop 1150315354But my microwave is all dark now :o(
After seeing this film I took the light bulb out of the microwave, just to be safe but now I cant see what's cooking. What I`m going to do is put my kitten in. If the food starts to burn the cat will cough and that will alert me to the fact the food is ready and I`ll switch it off. The simple ideas are always the best :o)
will you be calling me racist if i would tell you that the most stupid and dumbest things here in metacafe are done by caucasians?
